Who is the REM-Fit 500 Ortho Hybrid most suitable for?
The REM-Fit 500 Ortho Hybrid is designed for sleepers who prioritise rock-solid support and spinal alignment.
We think it's particularly suitable for:
- Back sleepers: The firm tension is ideal for maintaining the natural curvature of the spine.
- Stomach sleepers: This firmness level prevents the hips from sinking, keeping the spine level and reducing lower back strain.
- Heavier-weight sleepers: The 2000 strong pocket springs and high-density foam provide necessary support and longevity.
- Individuals with back pain: Due to its orthopaedic design and zoned tension systems, it is highly recommended for those suffering from back complaints.
- Couples: The mattress boasts both excellent edge-to-edge support and motion isolation, making it a top choice for couples.
That said, it may not be the best choice for lighter-weight side sleepers, who often require a little more sinkage, or those who prefer an overall softer feel.

What does sleeping on the REM-Fit 500 Ortho Hybrid mattress feel like?
Our testers have gone through multiple mattresses this year, and the REM-Fit 500 Ortho Hybrid has been the most comfortable by far.
Comfort, however, is subjective.
- If you love good, firm mattresses, like the Otty Hybrid, you will love the REM-Fit 500 Ortho Hybrid. It's incredibly firm, very supportive, and feels rock solid.
- However, if you prefer a little bit of squish or like a softer, gentler feel, this won't be the mattress for you. You'll likely be far more comfortable on a softer mattress like the Simba Hybrid Pro or even a more mid-level feel, like the Emma Hybrid Premium.
Our testers felt the REM-Fit 500 Ortho was a bit too firm on the first night, especially since they just moved over from a few softer mattresses, but this is to be expected.
By the second night, however, the mattress already felt a lot more comfortable - the perfect fit.
How firm is the REM-Fit 500 Ortho Hybrid mattress?
REM-Fit rates the 500 Ortho Hybrid as having firm tension, a 9 out of 10.
And we'd definitely agree, putting it at a 9 out of 10 on the Sleep Hero firmness scale.
Generally, you'd want to go for a slightly firmer mattress if you're a stomach sleeper, back sleeper, or of heavier weight, while you'd likely want to go for a slightly softer mattress if you're a side sleeper or of lighter weight.
But, one of our testers is an average-weight side sleeper with a preference for firmer mattresses, and still found the REM-Fit 500 more comfortable and supportive than some softer models.
Does the REM-Fit 500 Ortho Hybrid sleep hot?
We tested the mattress during autumn so can't directly speak to what you'd experience in the peak of summer, but, the mattress felt cooler and more breathable than a few other memory-foam-based products we've tried in similar weather conditions.
Considering the high spring count, it makes sense that the 500 Ortho offers enhanced breathability.
Springs generally allow for better airflow and, combined with open-cell foam and a thermo-regulating cover
Is the REM-Fit 500 Ortho suitable for couples?
The REM-Fit 500 is a dream for couples, and here's why:
- The exceptional support makes it well-suited to people of different builds
- It has above-average edge support, ensuring you can make use of the full width of the mattress without feeling like you're falling off
- It has almost zero motion transfer, meaning you won't feel your partner tossing and turning at night
We tested the mattress on a slatted bed frame, which generally leads to poorer edge support and higher motion transfer than what you'd experience on a divan base, so the REM-Fit's excellent performance is definitely testament to its high quality.
REM-Fit 500 Ortho Hybrid composition
The 25 cm deep REM-Fit 500 is a premium hybrid built from several key layers working in tandem to deliver orthopaedic firmness, pressure relief, and temperature control.
- Removable, washable cover: A soft, breathable cover that is easy to keep clean and promotes airflow.
- Cool, adaptive memory foam: A comfort layer of responsive, pressure-relieving foam. This layer is designed with an open-cell structure to be highly breathable, dissipating heat much faster than traditional memory foam.
- Performance foam: An additional foam layer enhances support and reduces sagging.
- Zoned support foam: A high-density layer beneath the comfort foam that features zoned sections to relieve pressure points, particularly around the shoulders and hips, while ensuring stability across the mattress surface.
- 2000 pocket spring core: The heart of the Ortho Hybrid, containing 2000 individual, triple-tempered steel pocket springs. Each spring works independently, providing precise, firm support and excellent motion isolation, while also promoting air circulation.
- Edge-to-edge side support: Reinforced side support walls ensure the mattress maintains its shape, prevents sagging, and gives you a stable sleeping surface right up to the very edge (the "no-roll-off" feature).
- Base foam: A high-density base foam layer adds durability and makes the mattress more suitable for a wider range of bed bases, but REM-Fit does caution that slats in slattted bases should be no greater than 10 cm apart.
Conveniently, the removable cover is fully machine-washable, so you never have to worry about spillages and stains.
But, we'd still highly recommend pairing your mattress with a waterproof mattress protector to safeguar your purchase.
REM-Fit 500 Ortho Hybrid delivery and trial conditions
The REM-Fit 500 Ortho Hybrid mattress comes with free UK delivery within 1 - 3 working days.
Unlike most other bed-in-a-box brands, we were surprised to see that the mattress did not come rolled up and compressed in a box, but in a big recyclable bag.
Delivery was quick and easy, communication was great, and the delivery team was kind and helpful.
Here some need-to-knows:
- Unpacking your mattress: We didn't experience any off-gassing, but it did take a good 24 hours or so for the foams to expand fully. So if you unpack your mattress and notice it's looking wonky or not expanding, just give it time.
- Sleep trial: REM-Fit offers a competitive 200-night risk-free sleep trial, giving you the chance to try your mattress in the comfort of your own home. If it's not a perfect fit, they'll pick it up again, free of charge, and issue a full refund.
- Guarantee: You'll also benefit from a 15-year full replacement guarantee, so you can rest easy knowing your purchase is safe for years to come.
It's worth noting, again, that REM-Fit explicitly states the mattress should not be used on slatted bases where the slats are more than 10 cm apart.
In our experience, sticking to the brand guidelines on this not only ensures a better sleep but also guarantees you have a hassle-free process during any trial or warranty claims.
