Who is the Simba Performance mattress protector most suitable for?
This mattress protector is best suited to sleepers who prioritise comfort and quality over full waterproof protection.
We'd recommend it to:
- People looking for a slightly quilted feel for extra comfort
- Those after a premium product
- People with no moisture concerns
It’s a great option for adding a soft layer of protection without compromising breathability or feel.
Take a look at our rating before diving into the full review below.
Simba mattress protector composition
The Simba Performance mattress protector is a soft, breathable layer designed to protect your mattress from dirt, dust, and bacteria, while adding a light, quilted feel to the surface.
Made from 200-thread-count cotton with a 200 g/m² fill, it’s infused with hypoallergenic Bi-Ome technology [1], which helps prevent odours and protects against micro-organisms.
- Cover and skirt: 100% cotton
- Quilt fill: 97% cotton, 3% other fibres
- Lining: 100% polypropylene
Unlike many other quality mattress protectors, this cotton mattress protector does not include a full waterproof membrane.
The polypropylene lining offers light moisture resistance, but it won’t fully protect against spills or sweat.
If you're a hot sleeper, prone to night sweats, or like a morning coffee in bed, you may want to explore a fully waterproof mattress protector instead. 😅
Our favourite waterproof mattress protectors:
What does sleeping on the Simba mattress protecter feel like?
Cheap mattress protectors - often crinkly, plasticky, and uncomfortable - have given protectors a bad name.
But high-quality options like the Simba mattress protector avoid all the usual drawbacks, offering protection without the noise.
And since there’s no waterproof film, there’s no crinkly sound to disturb your sleep.
Soft, quilted feel
While many protectors are paper-thin, the Simba mattress protector has a lightly quilted design that adds a gentle touch of softness.
It’s still not a mattress topper, so it won’t change the feel of your mattress, but it does add a subtle layer of comfort.
This is a premium quilted mattress protector, designed with sleep comfort in mind.
Enhanced breathability
Some protectors trap heat, leading to restless nights - but not this one.
Made from 100% breathable cotton, the Simba mattress protector promotes airflow and works with your mattress to help keep you cool and dry.
Water-resistant protection
The Simba protector isn’t waterproof, but it does offer light water resistance.
Look at the images below:
In our tests, it gave us around 1 - 2 minutes before moisture began seeping through to the mattress. 💦
That’s enough time to catch minor spills, but far less protective than some other water-resistant options, which held up for as long as 10 minutes.
If you're a heavy sweater or prone to spills, this may not offer the level of protection you need.
How do you wash the Simba mattress protector?
Mattress protectors don’t need to be washed as often as your sheets, but we recommend giving them a clean about once every three months.
A regular wash helps remove dust mites, bed bugs, and allergens that can build up over time.
- Machine-wash on a 40°C cotton cycle with similar colours
- Use a non-bio detergent and avoid any biological or enzyme-based options
- Hang to air dry or tumble-dry on low heat
- Do not bleach or iron
For the best protection against allergens like dust mites and bed bugs, some experts recommend washing at 60°C, though that’s rare for most mattress protectors, especially those with waterproof coatings.
If you're looking for a protector that can be washed at higher temperatures, you might want to consider alternatives like the Hypnia mattress protector.

How deep is the Simba mattress protector?
The Simba mattress protector has been designed to fit mattresses up to 40 cm (15.7 inches) deep, regardless of whether you’re going for one of the Simba Hybrid mattresses or any other mattress.
This is great news if you have a very luxurious mattress, like the Simba Hybrid Luxe, or if you’ve placed a thicker mattress topper, like the Hypnia mattress topper, over your mattress.
Like a fitted sheet, the mattress protector has elasticated bound edges so you can tuck it over your mattress very neatly.
What does the Simba mattress protector cost?
The Simba mattress protector is a premium product, and its price reflects the quality materials and quilted comfort it offers. 💷
While it isn’t waterproof, it adds a soft, breathable layer of protection that sets it apart from many basic protectors.

Simba mattress protector delivery & trial conditions
Simba offers free next working day delivery for most UK postcodes on their mattress protectors.
To qualify, simply place your order before 2pm; orders placed after 2pm will be delivered within two working days.
The Simba mattress protector is delivered neatly folded in a cardboard box, minimising the use of plastic (the box will usually come wrapped in a shipping bag for protection).
We’d recommend giving the mattress protector a wash before putting it on your bed.
Unfortunately, there is no trial period - but the Simba protector does come with a 1-year guarantee.
That said, if you decide the product isn’t quite right for you, you can return it within 14 days of purchase, if you're returning it in its original condition and securely wrapped with the original packaging intact.
Should you buy the Simba mattress protector?
The Simba mattress protector is a premium product made of high-quality materials and offers a luxe, quilted feel. ⭐️
If waterproofing isn’t a major concern for you and you have the budget available, this will be a fabulous choice to enhance your sleeping environment.
That said, we really weren't impressed by the water resistance (and lack of full waterproofing) of this protector.
For the price, you'd expect something that will safeguard your mattress from stains and moisture, and you'd likely be better off investing in something like the Nectar mattress protector or Hypnia mattress protector instead.
