Who is the Derila Ergo pillow most suitable for?
The Derila Ergo pillow, similarly to the original Derila pillow, has a unique butterfly design with side support wings and a central dip - but the design has been enhanced quite significantly.
The goal: Improved neck support, better spinal alignment, and, ideally, less snoring.
From our tests, we'd say the Derila Ergo pillow is most suitable for:
- Side sleepers
- Back sleepers
- People who like orthopaedically-designed pillows
- Hot sleepers or those who sweat a lot at night
- People looking for extra support while sleeping
In short: If you enjoy ergonomically shaped pillows, the Derila Ergo might appeal to you, but if you prefer flatter, more flexible options, it's probably not the best fit.
Let's take a quick look at our ratings before diving into the full review.
What does sleeping on the Derila Ergo pillow feel like?
Several testers took the pillow for a drive for our Derila Ergo pillow review.
One of our testers, with a slimmer build, found it comfortable, but not ideal.
Another tester, with broader shoulders, was genuinely impressed and found it very supportive – especially while sleeping on their back.
But it's worth noting that the pillow you choose depends a lot on different sleep positions, and your pillow should always fill the gap between your neck and the mattress.
Is the Derila Ergo pillow suitable for side sleepers?
At around 13 cm (5.1 inches) in height, the Derila Ergo pillow is relatively thick, which makes it a good fit for many side sleepers.
But if you have quite a small frame or quite a firm mattress, you may find the pillow a little too tall.
Is the Derila Ergo pillow suitable for back sleepers?
The central hollow of the Derila Ergo is a nice touch for back sleepers – it cradles your head securely in a little cocoon, slightly lower than the edges.
But if you tend to change positions throughout the night, this fixed shape might become distracting.
Typical “combo sleepers” usually need more flexible pillow solutions, like standard square or soap-shaped pillows.
Is the Derila Ergo pillow suitable for stomach sleepers?
Stomach sleeping is a disaster for your neck, no matter what pillow you use.
And with the Derila Ergo pillow being on the taller side, it’s almost an invitation for neck strain.
If you absolutely insist on sleeping on your stomach, go with a very flat pillow, a height-adjustable pillow, or even no pillow at all.
We've linked to some ouf our favourite height-adjustable pillows below.

Composition of the Derila Ergo pillow
If one thing's true, it's that the Derila Ergo pillow is definitely not boring.
Derila Ergo pillow core
The core of the Derila Ergo pillow is made of memory foam [1], which is designed to respond to body heat and pressure.
Generally, this would allow for gentle sinkage and even pressure distribution, as the pillow adapts precisely to the shape of your head.
Even though we found the Derila Ergo quite comfortable, the memory effect is rather mild, and the foam springs back into its original shape fairly quickly:
Derila Ergo pillow shape
What makes the Derila Ergo pillow stand apart, though, is its unique design.
It has a distinct "butterfly" shape with stabilising side wings.
In the centre of the pillow, you'll find a round hollow for your head to rest in.
This also makes it super suitable for anyone who likes to wear headphones or earplugs while sleeping - and, even though there's a button to hold the cover in place, you don't feel this while sleeping.
Derila Ergo pillow cover
The cover itself feels soft and high-quality, and features two distinct sides:
- Thinner light blue part, which is slightly cooler to the touch
- Darker blue sectiom, which is more neutral in feel
It's also fully removable and machine-washable at 30℃.
That said, it's a very unique cover that matches the pillow's unique shape.
While we got a replacement cover with our order, allowing us to wash and dry one while still sleeping well, you'll be in for a troublesome adventure looking for a replacement elsewhere.
Derila Ergo pillow size
The pillow measures 54 x 36 cm (21.2" x 14.1") and has a height of 13 cm (5.1") at its highest point, considering the centre hollow and side wings.
This makes it a relatively high-loft pillow, even though it's still compact enough to double as a travel pillow.
If you prefer slightly larger pillows, you may do well on the Panda Memory Foam pillow or the REM-Fit 500 Cool Gel pillow, both of which are large, sturdy, and very comfortable options.
What does the Derila Ergo pillow cost?
The official website lists the Derila Ergo pillow at almost £200, but there is a permanent discount that brings the price down to roughly £60.
Even this discounted price is on the higher side, but it's more in line with top UK competitors, like the REM-Fit 500 Cool Gel pillow or the Emma Original pillow.
It's also worth noting that Derila offers numerous bundle deals, with discounted prices the more pillows you buy.
Derila Ergo pillow delivery and trial conditions
Delivery was quick and very efficient, with WhatsApp updates, email confirmations, and DHL tracking.
This definitely gets a thumbs up from us! 👍
But, unlike most UK-based brands, Derila does not offer free delivery and you're looking at fleshing out around £10 for delivery - quite steep.
The pillow comes tightly vacuum-packed in a compact box, which is incredibly space-saving, but we found it was wrapped in a bit too much plastic.
We also noticed a fair bit of off-gassing, which makes sense considering the vacuum-packed nature of this product.
The smell did disappear within a few hours, though, so we'd recommend simply unpacking with a window open.
Derila Ergo pillow trial period
The brand promotes a “30-day satisfaction guarantee” – but there’s a catch:
You can only get a full refund if you return the pillow unused and unopened within 14 days.
What this means:
- Full refund only if returned unopened within 14 days
- From day 15 onwards, you’ll only get the product price back – shipping costs are non-refundable
- You’ll also have to pay return shipping and send the item back in its original packaging
According to several Derila Ergo pillow reviews consumer reports, some users have had issues with the return process.
We didn’t test the return ourselves, so we can’t speak from personal experience.
Pillow trials are exceedingly rare, but if peace of mind is paramount, we'd recommend turning to Panda London - the company offers risk-free trials on all its pillows!
Final verdict on the Derila Ergo pillow
The Derila Ergo pillow scores points for its innovative, supportive design and quality materials.
Its unique shape definitely works for some type of sleepers, but it may take some getting used to.
If you're after a firmer, compact pillow that offers more ergonomic support, the Ergo would be worth a try.
But if you're after a more normal pillow, we'd recommend trying out the Panda Hybrid, Simba Hybrid, or the Emma Premium pillow instead.
