How we test products
Our mission is to take the guesswork out of finding the perfect sleep products.
We've dedicated hundreds of hours to testing mattresses and sleep accessories, and rely on a team of testers of differing weights, temperature preferences, and sleeping positions to evaluate each product.
Tested products are granted the Sleep Hero tested stamp of approval, a mark of our review's reliability.
If we haven't personally tested a product, please be assured that we invest significant time and energy into scouring the UK market and researching the best recommendations, and we work with a team of sleep experts who review our articles, ensuring that the insights we provide are not only relatable but also reliable.
Simba Hybrid Pro mattress review composition
With the Simba Hybrid, Simba Sleep introduced a pocket sprung foam mattress that set out to revolutionise the bed-in-a-box mattress market.
The Simba Hybrid Pro is the newer, upgraded version of the Simba Hybrid
While it isn’t Simba’s most advanced mattress (there’s still the Simba Hybrid Luxe mattress), it offers some amazing features. 🙌
The Simba Hybrid Pro features seven layers of premium materials to create one of the most luxurious mattresses on the UK market.
The eight mattress layers of the Simba Hybrid Pro are:
- Breathable top cover
- Natural wool layer
- Open-cell graphite-infused Simbatex foam
- Two layers of titanium Aerocoil springs, with up to 4000 springs in total
- Certipur foam stability layer
- SupportCore base layer with up to 1000 barrel springs
- Simba ReGen base layer
We’ll expand upon the breathable top cover in more detail further down. 👇
For now, let’s look at the mattress composition in more detail.
Simba Hybrid Pro mattress layers
1. Natural wool layer (0.5 cm / 0.2 inches)
The top layer of natural British wool is unique to the Simba Hybrid Pro, added in to help with heat regulation. 🐑
Wool has moisture-wicking properties and is naturally thermoregulating, keeping you cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
It is also naturally resistant to bacteria. 🦠
This makes wool a great hypoallergenic material to use in mattresses and bedding.
2. Comfort layer of graphite-infused Simbatex foam (2.5 cm / 1 inch)
The company-branded Simbatex foam makes up the comfort layer of the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress.
This open-cell foam layer features larger pores and has been developed to be much more breathable than memory foam.
This allows for greater airflow. 💨
This Simbatex comfort layer also features graphite particles for additional cooling properties.
3. (+4) Two layers of conical pocket springs (4 cm / 1.5 inches)
The Simba Hybrid features one layer of up to 2500 titanium alloy Aerocoil mini pocket springs (2.5 cm in height), manufactured in Leeds.
The Simba Hybrid Pro doubles this up and features a dual layer of mini pocket springs - with a total of up to 5000 springs. 🌀
These conical pocket springs provide bounce, high body adaptability, and even pressure distribution.
The spaces between the springs also create natural ventilation channels, further enhancing airflow and preventing overheating.
The Simba Hybrid Pro pocket springs are conical.
This shape allows them to be easily compressed, resulting in superior body adaptation.
They are enclosed in 100% polyester pockets, which increases motion isolation and protects the surrounding foams.
4. CertiPUR stability layer
The layer of CertiPUR foam delivers both structure and support, acting as a bridge between the Aerocoil spring layers and the SupportCore base.
5. No roll-off SupportCore base
The innovative edge-to-edge springs are central to this mattress, which contains up to 68% less foam.
These 1000-barrel springs collaboratively offer robust support across the entire mattress, enabling sleep right up to the edges without any sagging.
Constructed from tempered steel, these deep, barrel-shaped springs enhance the breathability of the mattress.
They are also encased in fabric to allow independent response to pressure.
6. Simba ReGen base layer
The Simba ReGen layer is the new mattress base layer.
It's crafted from surplus foam and repurposed into a premium product that adheres to stringent density standards.
All the foam utilised meets the CertiPUR standard, ensuring it's devoid of environmental pollutants and harmful substances.
Simba Hybrid Pro firmness
Like the Simba Hybrid, the Simba Hybrid Pro is a medium-firm mattress - though we’d rate it as slightly on the firmer end of the scale.
We’ve given it a 6.5 out of 10 on the Sleep Hero firmness scale, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest.
The mattress has been designed to hold up to 114 kg (251 lbs) per person (max 2. people).
How firm does the mattress actually feel?
When you first lie down on the mattress, you’re likely to experience a comfy and slightly softer, more luxurious feel.
This is due to the dual spring system and additional wool layer.
But while the top is body-contouring and comforting, you’ll quickly feel the firmer support layers underneath - together with the exceptional edge support.
The wool layer also breaks some sinkage. 👌
So, you can move around on the mattress quite comfortably, and won’t feel like you’re sinking into the foams too much or risk sliding off the edges.
The new sensation may take some getting used to.
We recommend trying a mattress for at least three weeks before deciding if it’s right for you or not.
Luckily, Simba Sleep offers a risk-free trial period on all its mattresses, so you can try it and, if you’re not happy, you can simply send it back for a full refund.
We’ll tell you more about the Simba Sleep trial period towards the end of this article.
Measuring how deeply we sank into the foams
In order to give you a proper Simba Hybrid Pro mattress review, we relied on a bit of maths and measured how deeply we sank into the foams. 🧮
Measuring sinkage is a good way to determine how supportive a mattress would be for different sleepers.
To test this, we used two different sleepers and measured their sinkage depths in various positions.
To keep things accurate, we always measure at the same place:
- If sleeping on the stomach, we measure at the stomach.
- If sleeping on the back and sides, we measure at the shoulders and hips.
Our experiment gave the following results:
|Person A (1.78 m / 65 kg)||Person B (1.80 m / 78 kg)|
|Lying on the back||
Shoulder: 5.5 cm
Pelvis: 6 cm
Shoulder: 6.5 cm
Pelvis: 7.5 cm
|Lying on the side||
Shoulder: 7.5 cm
Pelvis: 7 cm
Shoulder: 8 cm
Pelvis: 7.5 cm
As you can see, sinkage depths for the side position are quite a bit deeper than in the back position.
This is important.
It’s relatively easy for your spine to remain in its optimal alignment if you’re sleeping on your side or back (provided the mattress is firm enough to support you).
But side sleepers need the mattress to play along a bit more.
Weight is concentrated at two peak points, the shoulders and the hips. 🏋️♀️
These two parts of the body need to be able to sink in much deeper than the lighter parts of the body, so that the spine remains in its optimal alignment.
Take a look at the illustration below:
As you can see from the illustration, the additional sinkage helps the spine stay straight. 📏
This means you can wake up tension- and backache-free!
Good temperature regulation
Simba has spent a significant amount of time developing a mattress with superior airflow and heat management.
The Simba Hybrid Pro features numerous temperature-regulating features.
- Soft & breathable cover for enhanced airflow
- Naturally thermoregulating wool layer
- Graphite particles in the open-cell foam
- Springs with natural ventilation channels
- Grooves in the base foam for greater airflow
Overall, the Simba Hybrid Pro is known for its exceptional temperature regulation.
A medium-warm feel
But, we found that it offered more of a medium-warm feel.
Take a look at our temperature image, which demonstrates where heat is stored.
Even though wool is thermoregulating, it can feel a little warmer and more cosy. 🥵
The Simba Hybrid Pro may be cooler than memory foam mattresses (which tend to retain more heat), but we still wouldn’t recommend it to very heavy sweaters or people who easily feel hot at night.
You won’t feel too clammy on the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress as the wool layer wicks away moisture quite effectively, but if you’re after a cooler sleep, we’d recommend you stick to pure pocket sprung mattresses.
These are usually the coolest mattresses on the market. 😎
Simba Hybrid Pro mattress review cover
The Simba Hybrid Pro has a breathable sleep surface made up of a 750 g hypoallergenic knitted cover.
This is quite a bit softer and more luxurious than the 500 g knitted cover on the Simba Hybrid mattress.
Side handles for easy movement
The Simba Hybrid Pro is not a lightweight mattress, so moving it around can be a little difficult.
You don’t have to flip the mattress, but Simba Sleep UK does recommend you rotate it head-to-toe every couple of months.
To make this a little easier, the mattress cover has four convenient side handles for all larger-sized mattresses.
You cannot wash the mattress cover
The Simba mattress cover may be removable, but it is not machine-washable. 😔
Most bed-in-a-box mattresses - including the Simba Hybrid Luxe - have a machine-washable cover, which is great for people prone to allergies.
Simba Sleep recommends spot-cleaning the cover in case of stains. 🧼
But, we’d highly recommend making use of a mattress protector.
Mattress protectors serve as an additional, waterproof layer to safeguard your mattress from dirt, spills, stains, and bacteria.
Conveniently, Simba Sleep sells a waterproof mattress protector that’s worth checking out. 👇
Simba Hybrid Pro mattress prices
The Simba Hybrid Pro is one of the pricier bed-in-a-box mattresses on the market in the UK.
Sure, it’s still cheaper than the even more advanced Simba Hybrid Luxe and quite a bit cheaper than any of the Tempur mattresses. 💰
But, you’re still paying more than you would for other premium mattresses, like the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid.
That said, the Simba Hybrid Pro is an excellent mattress and well worth the investment.
Fortunately, Simba Sleep also offers regular Simba mattress deals - more on this in the next section.
(Note: prices listed below are standard prices excluding any current coupons & discounts)

Our favourite Simba Sleep accessories:
Simba Hybrid Pro mattress trial period
Like all Simba mattresses, the Simba Hybrid Pro comes with a risk-free 200-day trial period.
This begins as soon as the mattress has been delivered. 🗓
The industry standard is 100 nights, so Simba Sleep gives you a significantly longer time to test the mattress.
Trial periods are very important.
We firmly believe that it’s impossible to tell if a mattress is right for you by just lying on it for a few minutes in a shop - or even for just one night.
It can take your body up to three weeks to get used to a new mattress - especially if it's vastly different to what you’re used to.
A trial period gives you the chance to try out the mattress in the comfort of your own home for an extended period of time.
Returning a Simba mattress
If you’ve tried the Simba mattress, and you don’t think it’s right for you, you can return it for a full refund.
To do this, simply contact Simba customer services, and they’ll organise the whole process for you. 💻
Returns are free of charge, and you don’t even have to keep the original packaging.
Once returned, you’ll receive a full refund within a few days.
But, don’t worry:
Returned mattresses don’t go to waste.
All returned Simba mattresses are refurbished for re-sale, recycled, or donated to charities. ♻️
Should you buy the Simba Hybrid Pro?
The Simba Hybrid Pro is one of the best mattresses on the market and will certainly offer you a good night’s sleep.
We would recommend the Simba Hybrid Pro to:
- Side and front sleepers
- Average-weight and heavier-weight people
- People who like a medium-firm feel
- Restless sleepers
- Those after a plushier & more luxurious feel
But for lighter-weight sleepers, people who easily feel hot at night, and people on a budget, the Simba Hybrid is still a better deal.
If budget isn’t a concern for you, we’d also recommend you look at the more advanced Simba Hybrid Luxe, which rectifies some of the shortcomings of the Simba Hybrid Pro.
