How we test products
Our mission is to take the guesswork out of finding the perfect sleep products.
We've dedicated hundreds of hours to testing mattresses and sleep accessories, and rely on a team of testers of differing weights, temperature preferences, and sleeping positions to evaluate each product.
Tested products are granted the Sleep Hero tested stamp of approval, a mark of our review's reliability.
If we haven't personally tested a product, please be assured that we invest significant time and energy into scouring the UK market and researching the best recommendations, and we work with a team of sleep experts who review our articles, ensuring that the insights we provide are not only relatable but also reliable.
Eve vs Simba: Which mattress is best suited to you?
Even though the Eve Original and the Simba Hybrid mattresses are both excellent choices, they differ remarkably in terms of firmness level, the feeling of lying down, and comfort.
Both mattresses are described as medium-firm mattresses, but the Eve Original is still a little firmer than the Simba Hybrid.
The Eve is also an all-foam mattress, while the Simba is a hybrid mattress.
This has quite an effect on what sleeping on the mattress feels like.
Both, though, are excellent choices if you're looking for mattresses that are more environmentally friendly. 🌱
The Eve Original and the Simba Hybrid are free from harmful chemicals and toxins.
They're also both fire-retardant and adhere to UK fire regulation BS7177. 🔥
Eve Original: A good all-rounder
The Eve Original is a mattress with medium firmness.
We've placed it at 6.5 out of 10 on the Sleep Hero firmness scale, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest.
As a medium-firm mattress, the Eve Original is well suited to most people and sleeping preferences.
The Eve Original is primarily a memory foam mattress, and it has unique orthopaedic qualities.
It has high point elasticity, adapts well to the body's contours, and provides good pressure relief. 🤗
These features allow your muscles to relax fully while you're sleeping, preventing lower back pain and a build-up of tension.
The Eve mattress also encourages spinal alignment by allowing the heavier parts of your body to sink in a little deeper and supporting the lighter parts of your body. 📏
Choose the Eve Original if you:
- Are of average build.
- Sleep on your side, back, or stomach.
- Prefer medium-firm to firm mattresses.
- Are looking for good value for money.
- Need a mattress that suits a wide variety of people and sleeping preferences.
- Want a no-fuss mattress with a removable and machine-washable cover.
If you're looking for a firmer memory foam mattress, we can recommend the Nectar mattress.
You could also opt for a mattress topper if you want your mattress to be slightly softer.
Simba Hybrid: superior support and breathability
The Simba Hybrid, like the Eve Original, is best described as a medium-firm mattress.
It is slightly softer than the Eve Original, though, and we've placed it at 6 out of 10 on the Sleep Hero firmness scale, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest.
The Simba Hybrid is great regardless of which sleeping position you prefer, but it's particularly comfortable if you sleep on your back.
This is because the mattress offers excellent support, evenly distributing pressure throughout and allowing for optimal spinal alignment.
It is still soft enough, though, to be suitable for side sleepers.
Side sleepers generally require a little more sinkage (especially in their pelvic and shoulder areas) to allow their spines to remain straight.
The contour zones in the base layer help in achieving this.
Other notable features include Simba's edge support, so you won't feel like you're falling off the sides, and how easy it is to turn around on the mattress.
This makes the Simba Hybrid great for restless sleepers.
The Simba Hybrid also has a unique design that combines pocket springs with graphite-containing Simbatex foam layers to enhance airflow and overall breathability.
Even though the Eve Original uses new-generation memory foam, which is much more breathable than traditional memory foam, it still cannot compare to the hybrid nature of the Simba mattress.
All of these features allow a constant flow of air to move through the mattress, transporting body heat away and keeping your mattress temperature neutral. ❄️
This makes the Simba mattress a great choice for heavier sweaters or those who easily feel hot at night.
Choose the Simba Hybrid if you:
- Are of slight or average build.
- Are a restless sleeper.
- Prefer to sleep a little cooler.
- Like to sleep on your side or back.
Very heavy sweaters or large builds (above 130 kg / 264 lbs) may need to try the mattress to see if it can support them well enough.
If not, a pure pocket sprung mattress would be the best option.
Eve vs Simba mattress price & size comparison
The Eve Original is considerably cheaper than the Simba Hybrid mattress.
This is primarily because the Simba has pocket springs, while the Eve is a pure foam mattress.
Both Eve and Simba mattresses are available in the standard UK mattress sizes, but the Simba mattress is also available in a few European bed sizes. 🇪🇺
Both mattress brands offer regular discounts and vouchers and it is very possible to save 35% or more when you purchase your mattress. 💵
We collect discount codes regularly - and even have exclusive deals with some mattress brands.
We display these on our discounts page. 🥳
Advantages & disadvantages of the two mattresses
To sum up everything we've gone over, here is a table overview of the advantages and disadvantages of both mattresses.

What about other Eve and Simba mattresses?
The Eve Original and the Simba Hybrid are the respective brand's flagship products.
But, both Eve Sleep and Simba Sleep have a range of other mattresses.
Eve mattress range
Eve Sleep features a wide range of different mattresses, which can be a little confusing for customers. 🤯
Their mattresses are divided into the Lighter, Original, and Premium ranges as both foam-only and hybrid versions, which feature pocket springs in addition to foam.
- The "Lighter" mattresses are low-depth mattresses at more affordable prices, and the range includes the Eve Lighter mattress and the Eve Lighter Hybrid mattress.
- The "Original" mattresses are the brand's flagship products, and the range includes the Eve Original mattress (often referred to simply as the Eve mattress) and the Eve Original Hybrid mattress (often referred to simply as the Eve Hybrid mattress).
- The "Premium" mattresses are thicker, more luxurious versions at premium prices, and the range includes the Eve Premium mattress and the Eve Premium Hybrid mattress.
Simba mattress range
Of these, only the Pro and the Luxe are thicker, more luxurious mattresses.
How do other Eve mattresses and Simba mattresses compare?
All of the signature Simba mattresses (except for the Simbatex) are hybrid mattresses featuring multiple layers of foam and mini pocket springs.
These will be vastly different from the all-foam Eve Lighter mattress, Eve Original mattress (as discussed in this article), and the Eve Premium mattress.
Hybrid mattresses give an entirely different feel. 🌀
They are better suited to heavier-weight people and front/back sleepers, are easier to move around on and better for restless sleepers, and offer much greater breathability, making them much cooler than all-foam mattresses.
The Simba mattresses, then, can best be compared to the Eve hybrid range.
Eve Lighter Hybrid vs Simba mattresses
The Eve Lighter Hybrid is a low-height mattress, coming in at only 20 cm (7.8 inches).
There is a comparable Simba mattress - the Simba Essential. 🧒
Eve Original Hybrid vs Simba mattresses
The Eve Original Hybrid and Simba Hybrid are the most comparable.
Both feature multiple layers of foam and springs, though the Eve Original Hybrid features full-size pocket springs and the Simba Hybrid features mini pocket springs.
Mini pocket springs usually adapt to your body slightly better than full-size springs. 🤗
They also allow the mattress to contain more springs, which can help make it more responsive and feel more comfortable.
Eve Premium Hybrid vs Simba mattresses
The Eve Premium Hybrid is one of our favourite mattresses - 28 cm (11 inches) of luxurious foam and full-size pocket springs in a foam casing.
The Simba Hybrid Pro and Simba Hybrid Luxe are equally luxurious. 🏆
- The Simba Hybrid Pro also comes in at 28 cm (11 inches).
- The Simba Hybrid Luxe has a depth of 31 cm (12.2 inches).
As before, the Simba mattresses feature mini pocket springs, while the Eve Premium Hybrid has full-size pocket springs.
The Simba mattresses also have additional wool (in the Hybrid Pro) and bamboo wool (in the Hybrid Luxe) layers for superior temperature regulation.
