Emma vs Eve mattress comparison
The Eve or Emma mattress debate is a difficult one.
The Eve Original (now the Eve Wunderflip Memory Foam) and the Emma Original are among the best mattresses on the market, characterised by high-density foams with high durability.
They're also both memory foam mattresses.
Yet, they are still remarkably different. 🧐
If you're interested in in-depth analyses of these mattresses, we'd suggest you turn to our designated mattress reviews:

The mattresses may have different characteristics, but they are actually quite similar in design:
- They both have a breathable mattress cover.
- They both feature a breathable top layer for enhanced temperature regulation.
- They both feature memory foam for body-contouring support.
- Finally, they both have a zoned base layer for superior stability and support.
In the next section, we'll take you through the specifics of each mattress in more detail.
Emma vs Eve: Which mattress is best suited to you?
The Eve Original and the Emma Original are both very comfortable and quite similar in terms of composition.
But, firmness levels are different, which makes these two mattresses suitable for different types of people.
Both are safe, fire-retardant choices, though, and adhere to UK fire regulation BS7177 [1].🔥
The Eve mattress also carries CertiPUR [2] and OEKO-TEX [3] certifications, meaning it's free from harmful chemicals and toxins.
Both the Eve mattress and the Emma mattress are also manufactured in the UK. 🇬🇧
Eve Original: well-balanced support
The Eve Original was a medium-firm mattress, but the new Wunderflip design gives it two firmness levels - one medium-firm side and one firmer side.
We found the Eve Original incredibly comfortable, regardless of sleeping position - which certainly isn't the case with all bed-in-a-box mattresses. 📦
The Eve Original provides body-contouring support, reducing pressure points and encouraging proper spinal alignment.
It also provides much better edge support than the Emma Original.
Additionally, the memory foam used in the Eve mattress is up to 5 x more breathable than traditional memory foam. 💨
Choose the Eve Original if you:
- Want a well-balanced mattress that offers comfort and support
- Are of average weight or build
- Sleep on your side, back, or stomach
- Prefer medium-firm to firm mattresses
We would still be wary of recommending the Eve mattress to heavier-weight stomach or back sleepers, as these individuals might require a mattress that offers more support.
Emma Original: soft, orthopaedic comfort
The Emma mattress only has one firmness level, which we've placed on the firmer side of the Sleep Hero firmness scale.
It's an excellent mattress for lighter-weight or average-weight people, especially if they are side sleepers.
If you're a side sleeper, you'll require a mattress that's soft enough to allow your hips and shoulders to sink in a little more deeply.
But it still needs to offer enough firmness to support the lighter parts of your body.
This will allow for optimal spinal alignment, which releases tension, prevents back pain, and guarantees orthopaedic support.
The Emma Original is perfect for this. 👌
Choose the Emma Original if you:
- Want a mattress with body-hugging support and orthopaedic properties
- Are of lighter or medium build
- Sleep on your side
- Prefer softer mattresses
The Emma Original will be less suitable if you're of a larger build, a pure back or stomach sleeper, a heavier sweater, or a restless sleeper.
Eve vs Emma mattress composition
The Eve Original and the Emma Original mattresses are remarkably similar in composition.
Eve mattress composition
The Eve Original mattress consisted of three different high-quality foam layers and a machine-washable cover. 🧺
This has changed in the new Wunderflip design to include the following:
- Quilted fabric cover
- A layer of pressure-relieving memory foam
- The softer Wunderflip foam layer
- The firmer Wunderflip foam layer
- Anti-slip base with handles
The Eve Original has a total height of 24 cm (9.4 inches), slightly below the 25 cm (10 inches) bed-in-a-box average.
But the mattress is still thick enough for your standard bedding to fit.
Emma mattress composition
The Emma mattress is primarily a memory foam mattress made up of 3 different layers of foam.
These 3 foam layers are:
- A top layer of pressure-relieving Airgocell foam (3 cm / 1.1 inches)
- Viscoelastic memory foam layer (3 cm / 1.1 inches)
- A base layer of HRX polyfoam (19 cm / 7.4 inches)
The Emma Original has a total height of 25 cm (10 inches), which is on par with standard bed-in-a-box mattresses.
