The order and delivery processes are a vital part of buying a bed, so let's start from the beginning.
Finding and ordering the divan bed from Emma's website was incredibly easy.
It took just a few clicks, and the bed was ordered. ✅
Delivery
All Emma beds come with free delivery to homes in the UK, not including the Channel Islands.
You can pick a specific delivery date or choose to have it delivered as soon as possible, in which case it will arrive within 1 - 3 working days.
Emma will send an email with a tracking link once the bed is shipped.
Your courier will contact you on the day of delivery to provide an estimated time. 📲
Our Emma Divan Bed came perfectly on time, just towards the end of the 2-hour delivery time frame.
If you want, you can opt for a no-contact delivery service, where the driver will drop your items at the door and take a photo as proof of postage.
Our tester selected a standard delivery.
Friendly delivery drivers dropped the Emma Divan boxes in the hallway and offered to help bring them up to any room of choice.
It was a relief to have this option since we know not everyone can carry larger items. 🤰
Step-by-step guide for assembling the Emma Divan Bed
If you've ever built furniture from IKEA, you know how stressful and time-consuming it can be.
Luckily, that is not the case for this bed. 🙅
How do you assemble the Emma Divan?
When Emma claimed the bed could be assembled in 15 minutes, they weren't lying.
The Emma Divan Bed assembly instructions were simple to follow.
Our tester built the Emma Divan in around 20 minutes. 👏
They also state you won't need any tools, but we found having a pair of scissors and a screwdriver pretty handy.
Before we get started on how to assemble the Emma Divan, you should note that our tester added the headboard to their order.
You can skip any headboard-related steps if you don't have this part.
So, how do you assemble the Emma Divan Bed?
1. Unpack the boxes
First, unpack the three boxes and remove the smaller parts, including feet, screws, and headboard bolts.
Make sure you pop these somewhere safe to avoid losing anything. 🕵️
2. Attach the two base parts
Once you've unpacked the two larger boxes, you'll need to flip them over.
Thankfully the bases aren't very weighty, so turning them upside down shouldn't pose an issue.
Slide the bases together and attach the divan clips to secure them together. 🔒
3. Insert the divan feet
On the underside of the bed, there are 8 pre-drilled holes.
You will need to push the feet into these holes.
While we pushed the feet in by hand, getting them to click into place was a little tough.
You may want a rubber mallet to help you get the feet into the holes. 🔨
4. Trim the drawer strap
Now you have your bed feet and two base halves attached, it's time to flip the divan back around.
Once you have the bed the right way round, you can cut and trim the strap to release the drawers. ✂️
While you can do this at any point during assembly, we wouldn't recommend cutting the strap until you're done flipping the bed to avoid any loose drawers sliding and getting in your way.
5. Fasten the headboard struts
If you look behind the headboard, you'll find two wooden struts.
Rotate the two struts downward and fix them in place with a screw.
Unfortunately, at this stage, we realised that one of the screws from our Emma Divan was missing. 😱
Happily, this hiccup didn't stop us for long since we had a spare screw that did the job.
6. Secure the headboard
Insert the headboard bolts on whichever end you would like the headboard attached.
You may have to pierce the fabric when inserting the bolts.
Once the bolts are in place, you can slot the struts onto them.
You'll then need to tighten the bolts by turning them to the right until the headboard is secure and doesn't wobble.
7. Pop on your mattress and bedding
Now the bed is built, simply add your mattress and make your bed as usual.
Hop into bed and get ready for a great sleep experience. 🛌
How easy was assembling the Emma Divan Bed?
Our tester was amazed at how hassle-free it was to build the Emma Divan.
The assembly manual was easy to read, and everything was put together in under 20 minutes. 😄
Despite the bulky sizes of the boxes, everything was relatively lightweight.
All in all, the bed weighs approximately 32 kg (71 lbs) when put together, so moving the bases around wasn't a problem.
Emma Divan Bed trial period and returns
While most brands offer trial periods for their mattresses, this policy rarely extends to beds. 👎
Emma beds, on the other hand, come with a 200-night trial.
That means you'll have 200 nights to test the divan and see if it's right for you.
A trial is handy since it can be hard to tell from pictures whether you'll like a bed and if it will fit your home.
For instance, you might find the bed's height, look, or feel isn't quite what you thought it would be. 🤔
If you decide the Emma Divan is not your dream bed, you can return or exchange it within the trial period.
Emma returns
Truthfully, we didn't experience the Emma return process first-hand.
But the process should be simple for those who want to return an Emma Divan Bed.
You’ll simply need to head to the Emma website and look for the returns portal or email the support team. 📲
While some customers have found the Emma customer support service unhelpful, we had a different experience.
Our tester emailed Emma's support team with some questions and had a reply within a few hours. 🏃
Emma processes the return and arranges a time for the couriers to collect your bed.
Once you've arranged your return, it's time to disassemble your bed.
Taking the bed apart might not be quite as quick as putting it together, but it shouldn't take too long, as most parts simply need to be unclipped or unscrewed.
