How we test products
Our mission is to take the guesswork out of finding the perfect sleep products.
We've dedicated hundreds of hours to testing mattresses and sleep accessories, and rely on a team of testers of differing weights, temperature preferences, and sleeping positions to evaluate each product.
Tested products are granted the Sleep Hero tested stamp of approval, a mark of our review's reliability.
If we haven't personally tested a product, please be assured that we invest significant time and energy into scouring the UK market and researching the best recommendations, and we work with a team of sleep experts who review our articles, ensuring that the insights we provide are not only relatable but also reliable.
Who is the Emma Divan Bed suitable for?
The Emma Divan Bed is a stylish frame with easy-access storage.
But how do you know if this is the right bed for you?
We'll look into who the Emma Divan Bed is best and least suited to below. 👇
People who are short on space
Those who don't have much space to spare are well-suited to a divan bed.
The Emma Divan Bed has two integrated drawers, perfect for storing items like extra bedding or towels.
A divan bed is a perfect option for those who want easy access to stored items.
While you can store numerous items under traditional beds, this is not always a well-organised solution.
Did you know that studies suggest that we sleep better when we view our space as neat and tidy?
A bed like the Emma Divan could improve the look of your space, meaning better sleep for you.
People looking for mattress support
A bed frame cannot wholly alter the feeling or support level of a mattress, but it can enhance it.
A more solid bed base will provide more support and firm up the feel of a mattress. 💪
The Emma Divan Bed provides a secure and stable base.
Our tester didn't notice any significant change in the firmness of their mattress but did feel very stable on the Emma Divan base.
People who love a classic design
The Emma Divan Bed is sleek, simple, and clean.
Its frame is not overly decorated, plush, or colourful.
The bed is ideal for people who love a classical and minimalist style.
The Emma Divan Bed comes in 2 colour options, beige and dark grey.
People who want UK quality
The Emma Divan Bed is handmade in the UK.
The bed uses durable FSC-approved materials.
It feels much sturdier than cheaper divan beds, like the divan bed IKEA frames. 🌟
Even the Emma Divan storage drawers are well-made and glide on their rollers without a hitch.
The bed also comes with a 2-year warranty, a 200-night trial, and free returns.
So those who don't like the bed have plenty of options to return or exchange it.
Emma Divan Bed design
The Emma Divan is a classic-style bed frame with a soft and simple look.
It is available in two simple colours.
Emma Divan Bed colour options:
- Dark grey.
Whichever option you choose, you'll be relieved to hear that the material is designed to endure everyday use.
A soft 100% polyester fabric covers the base and the headboard.
The Emma Divan base is made with sturdy Scandinavian softwood. 🪵
However, the back side of the headboard is a little messier looking, with visible staples along the edges.
This less elegant finish is unlikely to bother most as the stapled area faces the wall.
Realistically, you'll won't see the staples again once the bed is built and the headboard is against the wall. 🙈
However, those searching for impeccable quality in every (even non-visible) inch of their bed may want to check out a more luxurious sleep brand like Simba.
The Emma Divan base sits on sturdy chrome-look plastic feet.
While the bed's polyester and plastic materials might not sound like the most luxurious options, they have all passed through quality assurance testing.
These tests help ensure materials are suitable for long-term regular use and unlikely to break or damage. 👍
The two drawers are seamlessly integrated to smoothly pull in and out of the divan bed.
It may not be as opulent as a velvet divan bed, but the Emma Divan has a timeless look and a practical design.
If you're on the market for a more lavish option, you could check out Tempur divan beds, which come upholstered in a range of plush and textured fabrics.
How much does the Emma Divan Bed cost?
Emma is a mid-range brand. 💸
While you can purchase cheaper beds and mattresses from brands like Happy Beds, you won't get the same level of quality.
The Emma Divan Bed is handmade by a Lancashire manufacturer that is an approved member of the National Bed Federation.
The soft material and chrome feet give the Emma Divan Bed a more luxurious appearance.
Other bed retailers offering similar or better-quality products tend to be far more expensive. 💰
For instance, the Simba Orion bed is known for its impeccable quality and finish.
However, the Simba bed is also expensive.
The Emma Divan is ideal for those who want to balance price and quality.
Emma Divan Bed delivery
The order and delivery processes are a vital part of buying a bed, so let's start from the beginning.
Finding and ordering the divan bed from Emma's website was incredibly easy.
It took just a few clicks, and the bed was ordered. ✅
All Emma beds come with free delivery to homes in the UK, not including the Channel Islands.
You can pick a specific delivery date or choose to have it delivered as soon as possible, in which case it will arrive within 1 - 3 working days.
Emma will send an email with a tracking link once the bed is shipped.
Your courier will contact you on the day of delivery to provide an estimated time. 📲
Our Emma Divan Bed came perfectly on time, just towards the end of the 2-hour delivery time frame.
If you want, you can opt for a no-contact delivery service, where the driver will drop your items at the door and take a photo as proof of postage.
Our tester selected a standard delivery.
Friendly delivery drivers dropped the Emma Divan boxes in the hallway and offered to help bring them up to any room of choice.
It was a relief to have this option since we know not everyone can carry larger items. 🤰
Emma Divan Bed trial period and returns
While most brands offer trial periods for their mattresses, this policy rarely extends to beds. 👎
Emma beds, on the other hand, come with a 200-night trial.
That means you'll have 200 nights to test the divan and see if it's right for you.
A trial is handy since it can be hard to tell from pictures whether you'll like a bed and if it will fit your home.
For instance, you might find the bed's height, look, or feel isn't quite what you thought it would be. 🤔
If you decide the Emma Divan is not your dream bed, you can return or exchange it within the trial period.
Truthfully, we didn't experience the Emma return process first-hand.
But the process should be simple for those who want to return an Emma Divan Bed.
You’ll simply need to head to the Emma website and look for the returns portal or email the support team. 📲
While some customers have found the Emma customer support service unhelpful, we had a different experience.
Our tester emailed Emma's support team with some questions and had a reply within a few hours. 🏃
Emma processes the return and arranges a time for the couriers to collect your bed.
Once you've arranged your return, it's time to disassemble your bed.
Taking the bed apart might not be quite as quick as putting it together, but it shouldn't take too long, as most parts simply need to be unclipped or unscrewed.
Is the Emma Divan bed right for you?
The Emma Divan Bed is a dream. 😴
It's the easiest thing to assemble, even for less experienced builders.
We think it's an excellent option if you are short on space.
The divan provides a neat storage option but doesn't give you the full under-bed space of something like an ottoman.
Still, it's a perfect easy-access solution for those who like a clean and timeless aesthetic. ✨
