The Silentnight mattress selection
If you’ve ever started browsing through the Silentnight online mattress shop, you were likely left feeling completely overwhelmed.
They have a massive selection of mattresses available, including pocket memory mattresses, ortho mattresses, pillow-top mattresses, spring system mattresses, and eco-friendly mattresses.
Silentnight is popular for their budget and discount mattresses, but they also have a few more luxury products available.
So how do you navigate this space?
How do you begin making sense of the vast selection of Silentnight mattresses?
Luckily, we’re here to help you 🎉
Silentnight mattresses can be divided by either material or special collection.
Each collection boasts several mattresses made from a variety of different materials, so let’s look at the materials first.
Silentnight mattress materials
The list below is not exhaustive as Silentnight offers mattresses in dozens of different materials, including latex, wool, natural fillings, and Geltex.
But, most of their mattresses belong to one of three main categories.
The three main types of Silentnight mattresses are:
- Mirapocket mattresses
- Miracoil mattresses
- Memory foam mattresses
Let’s look at these in a little more detail 👇
Mirapocket mattresses
Mirapocket may sound perplexing, but this is simply the term Silentnight uses for its own pocket spring mattresses.
Pocket spring mattresses are among the most popular mattresses in the UK.
And rightly so - these are very comfortable 😴
Springs are all housed in individual fabric pockets, which allows them to respond independently of each other.
This helps spread weight evenly across the mattress, providing good pressure distribution, pressure relief, comfort, and support.
The Silentnight Mirapocket system is also known for its superior edge-to-edge support.
This means that Mirapocket mattresses will support you right up to the edge of the mattress, and you won’t have that feeling of falling off the side 🏔
Pocket sprung mattresses are great for dozens of people of all ages, shapes, and sizes.
Miracoil mattresses
Like Mirapocket, Silentnight Miracoil is simply a brand-specific term.
It is used to describe the Silentnight coil spring mattresses.
Miracoil mattresses rely on an open coil spring system with a continuous length of wire, which is shaped into a series of interwoven springs.
Unlike most open coil systems, though, Silentnight links these vertically rather than horizontally.
This helps with better spinal alignment, maximises the sleeping space, and allows for less partner disturbance, making the Miracoil system ideal for couples 👩❤️👨
Miracoil mattresses are generally cheaper spring mattresses, and they’re great for spare rooms or occasional use.
For everyday use, we’d suggest opting for a pocket sprung mattress instead.
Memory foam mattresses
In addition to the spring mattresses, Silentnight also offers a range of memory foam mattresses.
Memory foam allows for superior body adaptability, making it a popular choice for orthopaedic mattresses.
Silentnight memory mattresses are available in both budget and more premium versions.
We’ll go into more detail in the next section.
SHOP SILENTNIGHT MEMORY MATTRESSES
Silentnight mattresses by collection
Most Silentnight mattresses will feature one of the above-mentioned materials.
These are then further divided into different mattress ranges or mattress collections.
Let’s take a closer look at these 🧐
Mattress-Now
The Silentnight budget memory foam mattresses are known as the Mattress-Now range.
These are low-height, rolled mattresses suitable for the smaller budget.
Mattresses feature several contour zones for better support but are made predominantly of softer memory foam.
These mattresses are delivered compressed, rolled-up, and vacuum-sealed.
Even though these mattresses are well-priced, some customer reviews complain about dipping and heat retention 🥵
This is to be expected in memory foam mattresses that don’t offer firmer support foam or temperature regulation systems.
Silentnight Studio
The Silentnight Studio collection is the more premium memory foam range.
Like Mattress-Now, these mattresses are delivered compressed, rolled-up, and vacuum-packed.
The Studio mattresses are most comparable to the other bed-in-a-box mattresses we feature on Sleep Hero, like the Ergoflex mattress or the Nectar mattress.
The Silentnight Studio mattresses are available in all-foam or hybrid versions, and you can get them in a variety of different firmness levels.
Eco Comfort
The Silentnight Eco Comfort collection features traditional Miracoil or Mirapocket sprung mattresses, where the filling is made from recycled plastic bottles.
Silentnight as a whole has placed an enormous emphasis on sustainability 🌱
The Eco Comfort range is one of the ways in which they help combat waste, as each mattress is made of 150 plastic bottles.
Eco Comfort mattresses are available in a variety of different firmness levels.
Geltex
The Silentnight Geltex mattress range features advanced hybrid mattresses designed to be more breathable 💨
Enhanced breathability keeps you cooler and more comfortable, so these are a great option if you easily feel hot at night.
Geltex also offers a slightly different feel to memory foam.
It’s more latex-like, with a subtle bounce, but an overall firmer sleeping surface.
You also won’t get that full body-contouring of memory foam, making the Geltex mattresses easier to move around on - while still offering good relief of pressure points.
Essentials
The Essentials collection features budget Miracoil and Mirapocket spring mattresses.
These are good options for people with a low budget, though we would highly recommend investing a little more to purchase a higher-quality mattress.
After all, the quality of your mattress directly affects the quality of your sleep, your health, and your overall life.
How comfortable are Silentnight mattresses?
It’s impossible to give one standard answer to describe the suitability or comfort of Silentnight mattresses.
This is simply because there are so many Silentnight mattresses available.
That said, most Silentnight customer reviews are favourable.
After all, the company has spent the last 70 years building up a reputation as the UK’s most trusted bed brand.
If you grew up in the UK, you’d undoubtedly recognise their logo with the hippo in the blue-and-white striped pyjamas and his little yellow duck 🐥
You can’t build up such trust with terrible products.
Most Silentnight customers seem to find their mattress quite comfortable, though there have also been complaints about the quality of the lower-height, more affordable models.
You shouldn’t expect a long lifespan, though.
Silentnight mattresses aren’t the most durable products on the market, and they’re only guaranteed for a maximum of 5 years.
Who are Silentnight mattresses suitable for?
Silentnight’s main target customer is your average middle-income family.
If you’re looking for a good quality, trusted mattress that won’t break the bank, Silentnight is a good option to consider.
Silentnight mattresses can also be recommended to couples, babies and kids, and the elderly.
A good choice for couples
Most of the Silentnight Mirapocket mattresses have low motion isolation and offer good pressure distribution across the width of the mattress.
These mattresses also have exceptional edge support that gives you the same firmness at the very edge of the mattress as in the centre.
These two features make the Silentnight mattresses well-suited to couples as you can make use of the entire width of the mattress and not feel your partner toss and turn at night.
A good choice for the elderly
The exceptional edge support is also particularly good for the elderly, who may need a moment or two sitting on the edge of the bed before getting up.
Most Silentnight mattresses are also very thick and above 30 cm (11.8 inches) in height.
This is particularly good for the elderly as it makes getting in and out of bed much easier - and less painful on the joints.
A safe choice for children
Silentnight also produces a whole range of mattresses specifically designed for babies, toddlers, and children.
We look at these in more detail a little further down 👇
Who would Silentnight mattresses not be suitable for?
While Silentnight has a fantastic range of beds, they’re typically aimed towards a middle-income group looking for a decent mattress.
If you’re looking for a top-end product, other mattress brands would probably be more suitable.
We would recommend the Nectar mattress or the Simba Hybrid.
The first is a memory foam mattress, while the latter two combine foams with pocket springs for enhanced breathability and support.
Short guarantee period
Most Silentnight mattresses also only come with a 5-year guarantee 😟
That’s not to say the mattress will deteriorate rapidly after 5 years, though there have been numerous customer reviews lamenting the durability of the materials.
If you’re looking for a mattress with a longer warranty period or one that will last you at least ten years, then Silentnight is not for you.
Our mattress recommendations:
Silentnight mattress covers
Each Silentnight mattress is slightly different, but Silentnight mattress covers are generally not removable.
Many of them are treated with Purotex, though, which reduces moisture and dust-mite allergens.
This also makes many of the Silentnight mattresses hypoallergenic choices that are great for people prone to allergies 🤧
To safeguard your mattress against dirt, stains, spills, and bacteria, we’d highly recommend investing in a mattress protector.
Our favourite mattress protectors:
Silentnight mattress certifications
Silentnight not only pays attention to the safety of products but also focuses on sustainability and aims to reduce any environmental impact 🌿
In 2017, they were even awarded the Furniture Maker’s Company Sustainability Award.
Safety and quality checks
All Silentnight products undergo vigorous safety and quality checks 👩🔬
You can rest assured that your Silentnight mattress has been checked for flammability compliance, cleanliness, and chemical safety.
A carbon-neutral organisation
Silentnight has pledged to be a carbon-neutral organisation, aiming to reduce waste and not contribute towards landfills.
90% of the waste generated across manufacturing sites is recycled ♻️
Waste is diverted away from landfills, and more sustainable uses are encouraged.
Foam from recycled mattresses, for example, is re-used for kids’ playmats, and comfort fillings are repurposed for protective clothing.
Supporting marine life
Silentnight has also partnered with the Marine Conservation Society.
They not only donate money to protect marine life, but staff also take part in regular nationwide beach clean-ups 🐟
Most impressively, though, Silentnight launched the Eco Comfort mattress range and has since helped prevent over 105 million plastic bottles from entering the ocean and landfill sites.
The Eco Comfort range of mattresses are made from plastic bottles that are shaved down and turned into a soft, comfortable material.
The Eco Comfort Pocket 1200 mattress has even won the Good Housekeeping 2020 Getting Greener Award.

Silentnight mattress delivery conditions
Silentnight delivers all its mattresses free of charge to any location within mainland UK and Northern Ireland 🇬🇧
The delivery conditions of your Silentnight mattress will depend on the type of mattress you’ve purchased.
Rolled mattresses
If you’ve opted for one of the rolled mattresses, your mattress will be delivered compressed, rolled-up, and vacuum-packed, much like standard bed-in-a-box mattresses 📦
These are delivered to the front door of your building.
Rolled-up mattresses are delivered within 24 hours.
That’s a remarkable turnaround time.
Most standard bed-in-a-box brands, like Simba or Eve, need at least 1 - 3 business days for delivery, though next-day delivery options are also available ⏰
If you’re urgently looking for a mattress and need one delivered as soon as possible, then Silentnight is the way to go.
Because they’re compressed, one person can easily carry a rolled-up mattress.
Unpacking vacuum-sealed mattresses
To use, simply place the mattress on top of your bed base and unwrap.
Once the vacuum seal has been removed, these mattresses will slowly inflate back to their original size.
You may notice some off-gassing, which is a chemical odour associated with compressed mattresses.
This is completely normal and not harmful in any way 😅
The smell may be a little unpleasant, though, so we’d recommend unpacking your new mattress in a well-ventilated room.
The smell should dissipate quite quickly.
Two-man delivery
All other Silentnight mattresses come with a standard two-man delivery service, where your chosen mattress is delivered straight to the room of your choice 🏡
All Silentnight beds and mattresses are handmade to order, so it can take anything from 14 days to 5 weeks before they’re delivered.
Silentnight mattress trial period
If you buy directly through the Silentnight online store, you’ll get access to the Silentnight 60-night comfort exchange.
This is valid for all mattresses and divan beds and begins with delivery of the product.
The 60-night comfort guarantee gives you 60 nights to try out the mattress in the comfort of your own home.
This gives you the chance to see if you really like it.
If you buy Silentnight mattresses through other retailers, you’re likely only to get 30 to 40 days to trial the mattress.
That’s why we always recommend purchasing directly from the brand 👍
Trial shorter than other brands
The Silentnight trial period is considerably shorter than trial periods of our other favourite bed-in-a-box mattress brands.
- Simba, for example, gives you 200 nights to try the Simba Hybrid.
- Nectar gives you a whopping 365 days to try the Nectar mattress.
The Silentnight 60-night trial isn't terrible. 60 nights should still be plenty to help you decide if you like the mattress.
A shorter trial period also means that there’s less chance of damaging the mattress and voiding your trial.
So if you have pets or enjoy your coffee in bed, a shorter trial may be a better option ☕️
But, we're still not big fans.
No money-back guarantee
There is also a catch.
While other trial periods offer you a money-back guarantee, this is not the case with Silentnight 😩
If you’re not happy with your purchase, you can only exchange the product for another one.
There are also some costs involved.
The customer will have to pay for additional delivery costs and removal of the original product.
If you want to exchange for a higher-priced mattress, you’ll also need to pay the difference 💷
14-day return policy
Instead of a good risk-free trial period, Silentnight only offers a basic returns policy.
If you have not opened, slept on, or otherwise used the product, you could return it within 14 days for a full refund.
Brands with better trial periods
Additional charges, no refunds, and basic complications make life more troublesome.
And who needs more stress in life?
We cannot overemphasise the importance of a good trial period.
Sleeping on a mattress is so subjective - it's only by trying it out that you'll be able to tell if it's perfect for you.
That's why we'd encourage you to opt for a mattress with a longer (and risk-free) trial period instead.
Our favourite mattress trial periods:
Should you buy a Silentnight mattress?
If you’re looking for a quality mattress at a good price, then, yes, a Silentnight mattress is a good choice.
They have dozens of award-winning best-buy options 🏅
We would recommend Silentnight mattresses to:
- Children
- Young couples
- The elderly
- People who care about the environment (if you opt for the Eco Comfort range)
- People on a budget
- People who’re looking for a mattress that will serve them well for the next five or so years
If you’re looking for a top-end product that will last you ten years or longer, we would suggest considering some of the more premium mattresses we’ve reviewed.
The Nectar mattress is a good value-for-money option.
