Who is the Origin LumbarCloud mattress suitable for?
The Origin LumbarCloud is a premium, firmer hybrid mattress designed for those who want a plush hotel-bed aesthetic without sacrificing spinal alignment.
We think it’s particularly well-suited to:
- Back and stomach sleepers: The firm core provides excellent support for the midsection.
- Heavier-weight side sleepers: The deep cushioning allows for better pressure relief for larger frames.
- Couples and co-sleepers: The motion isolation is some of the best we have tested.
- Hot sleepers: The advanced cooling bands and graphite latex work effectively to regulate temperature.
Take a look at our rating below before diving into our full LumbarCloud review:
How comfortable is the Origin LumbarCloud?
The best way to test a mattress is to live with it, so our testers spent some time sleeping on the LumbarCloud to see how it handled different positions.
Is the Origin LumbarCloud suitable for side sleepers?
Side sleepers usually require enough give to allow the shoulders and hips to sink in.
During our first few days, one of our testers experienced some initial shoulder aching while adjusting to the firmness. However, after this initial break-in period, the body adjusted and both testers found it comfortable.
We would note that lightweight side sleepers might find it a touch too firm to get that necessary pressure relief. Additionally, if you’re a side sleeper, we strongly recommend using a deep pillow; sleeping without one on this mattress led to some back pain for our tester.
Is the Origin LumbarCloud suitable for back sleepers?
Back sleeping on this mattress was exceptionally comfortable.
The 9-zone ergonomic design and the reinforced centre third (the Lumbar Zone Technology) provide a palpable sense of support where the weight of the spine is most concentrated.
Even though our testers don't typically sleep on their backs, they found this position felt very natural on the LumbarCloud.
Is the Origin LumbarCloud suitable for stomach sleepers?
The mattress performs very well for stomach sleepers. It provides the necessary resistance to prevent the hips from sinking too low, which helps keep the spine aligned.
We feel it’s particularly comfortable for light to medium-weight stomach sleepers who want a soft surface feel with a stable base.
How firm is the Origin LumbarCloud?
While the top layers of the mattress provide some sponginess and plushness, the support underneath is quite robust.
We’d rate the Origin LumbarCloud an 8 out of 10 on our firmness scale (where 1 is soft and 10 is very firm).
This makes it similar to, or perhaps slightly firmer than, the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid mattress.
Measuring edge support and depth
The mattress offers good edge support, meaning you can use the full width of the bed without feeling like you might roll off.
However, the sheer 35 cm depth creates a unique challenge.
- Because the mattress is so thick, it can actually be quite inconvenient to sit on the edge to put on socks or slippers.
- Furthermore, if you have a high divan base, the combined height means you may literally have to climb into bed.
For this reason, we would not recommend this mattress to the elderly or those with limited mobility.
Does the Origin LumbarCloud sleep cool?
Temperature regulation is one of the LumbarCloud's strongest features.
It uses a CoolWeave cover, cooling bands, and graphite-infused latex designed to draw heat away 50% faster than memory foam.
We tested the mattress in early spring with average room temperatures ranging from 18°C to 24°C.
Even on the warmer days, the mattress slept surprisingly cool, and whether we used a 5-tog or a 10-tog duvet, we didn’t experience any overheating.
The combination of the micro-spring layers and breathable wool definitely helps with airflow.
Is the Origin LumbarCloud good for couples?
If you’re easily disturbed by a partner (or a baby) moving in the night, the LumbarCloud is an excellent choice.
It features a Triple ComfortCore system with thousands of micro-springs designed to isolate motion.
In our tests, the motion isolation was excellent.
It fared even better than the Simba Hybrid, one of our favourite mattresses.
Our tester noted that even when their toddler climbed into bed in the early hours, there was significantly less movement felt across the mattress, leading to fewer disturbances overall.
Origin LumbarCloud appearance and composition
Visually, the LumbarCloud is a very sleek and premium-looking mattress with stylish black edging, though it’s worth noting that this can show through thin white sheets.
This 35 cm mattress consists of 11 distinct layers, including:
- CloudPlush Pillow Top: Features Tencel and CoolWeave technology to dissipate heat.
- CloudCool Cooling Bands: Four bands designed to shuttle away excess heat.
- Naturally Breathable Wool: A moisture-wicking layer that adds light cushioning.
- Open-cell Originex Gel-infused Foam: Provides buoyant, breathable support.
- Cooling Support Foam: Enhances structural integrity and airflow.
- AstroLift Gel: A NASA-inspired hyper-elastic matrix for a weightless sensation.
- ComfortCoil Micro-springs (Double Layer): Two layers of springs for flexible, zoned support.
- HexaGrid Comfort Layer: An open-cell foam that lifts the body and promotes back comfort.
- PureCool+ Graphite Latex Foam: High-conduction latex to draw heat away from the body.
- PlushTop TitanCore Spring System: 9-zone micro-springs for a seamless comfort transition.
- DuraEdge Stabilising Base: A high-density base wrapped in a cotton-blend cover.
The mattress also features CloudNine stitching on the pillowtop. This isn't just for show; the stitching actually indicates where the lumbar support is located, helping you position yourself correctly.
The tufts on the pillowtop are quite deep and plush and while you can feel these dips when lying down, our testers found it added to the premium feel. That said, those who prefer a completely smooth surface may find this jarring.

The Origin LumbarCloud comes with Free White Glove Delivery to your room of choice.
Our experience was largely positive. While there was some initial confusion regarding the delivery date, we received a text confirmation and a phone call 30 minutes before arrival. The drivers were polite and went above and beyond - one driver even repaired a shoe rack he accidentally knocked over during the move!
Origin also offers the following:

Verdict: Should you buy the Origin LumbarCloud?
The Origin LumbarCloud is a high-quality, luxury mattress that successfully balances firm orthopaedic support with a plush, cloud-like surface. It feels incredibly premium and offers some of the best cooling and motion isolation we have encountered.
However, its greatest strength is also its main drawback: the 35 cm depth. While it looks magnificent, it requires extra-deep sheets and can make getting in and out of bed a bit of a climb.
We recommend the Origin LumbarCloud if:
- You suffer from back pain and need targeted lumbar support.
- You are a back or stomach sleeper who prefers a firmer feel (8/10).
- You want a cool-sleeping mattress that looks like it belongs in a five-star hotel.
- You share a bed and want to minimise disturbances from your partner.
If you’re a lightweight side sleeper or have mobility issues that make a high bed difficult to navigate, you might find this model less practical. For everyone else, it is a top-tier investment in sleep.
