Who is the Groove Air Cooling Pillow most suitable for?
We loved sleeping on the Groove Air pillow, and think it's best designed for:
- Hot sleepers, who overheat during the night and want a memory foam pillow that doesn't trap heat
- Side and back sleepers dealing with neck, shoulder, or upper back pain
- People experiencing perimenopause or menopause, particularly hot flashes and night sweats
- Anyone who likes memory foam's support but has previously found it too warm

What does sleeping on the Groove Air Cooling Pillow feel like?
Let's take a closer look at how the pillow performed in our Groove Air pillow review.
Comfort and support
Structure-wise, the Groove Air isn't much different than the original Groove pillow, which is still one of our favourite neck-support pillows after over 4 years of use!
Needless to say, then, it's exceptionally comfortable.
You'll get medium-firm memory foam relief that gently conforms around your head and neck, with full groove support to keep your neck in place while sleeping.
The aim is to rest your neck in the centre groove of the pillow, enjoying the comfortable hug it gives you.
Of course, it's unlikely you'll stay in one position during the night, but we found the Groove Air comfortable throughout, even while turning from the side to the back.
You can even sleep comfortably on the sides and the middle of the pillow, which is great since back sleepers generally need a slightly lower loft than side sleepers, and the slanted shape of the Groove accommodates this perfectly.
Cooling performance and breathability
Unlike gel cooling pillows, which rely on a gel layer to absorb heat before it eventually warms back up, the Groove Air uses an all-airflow approach. ❄️
The same bamboo charcoal memory foam core from the original Groove pillow is combined with three cooling additions:
- 40 ventilation channels cut into the foam, which Groove says increase airflow by more than 50% compared with a standard memory foam pillow
- A CoolTouch outer cover, an OEKO-TEX [1] certified fabric designed to feel cool from the moment you lie down, rather than warming up over time
- Wide-weave mesh side panels intended to draw cooler air through the pillow as you sleep
Together, these three features are designed to work as a system rather than relying on any single material to do the cooling.
The idea is a pillow that's cool from the first touch and stays that way, rather than one that slowly heats up overnight.
That airflow-first approach is also the main thing that sets it apart from gel alternatives.
We'll talk more about the cover a little further down, but from first testing during a UK heatwave, we definitely noticed the stark temperature difference between the regular pillow and the Groove Air Cooling pillow.
It's noticeably cooler to the touch - and stays cool even with use!

Groove Air Cooling pillow design & construction
The Groove Air keeps the bamboo charcoal memory foam core from the original Groove pillow and adds cooling-specific materials around it.
- Core: 100% bamboo charcoal-infused memory foam (CertiPUR certified)
- Main cover fabric: 88% Polyamide (Nylon) / 12% Elastane
- Side panels: 100% Polyester, wide-weave mesh
- Cover certification: OEKO-TEX certified
Between the certified foam and fabric, the build leans on tested materials rather than unverified claims.
The memory foam core itself has a medium-firm feel, without too much of that "sinking into the foam" feel, meaning it feels comfortable, soft, and supportive without you sinking in too deeply.
The cover is phenomenal - it feels silky soft, cool to the touch, and ultra-smooth.
While of course you should still be using a pillowcase with your Air Cooling pillow, we'd highly recommend opting for something along the lines of bamboo or silk, which will help keep you cooler for longer.
Standard pillowcases work, but luckily Groove also has custom-cut pillowcases to match the pillow shape, and they even have smooth silk options!
Size-wize, the Groove Air measures 60 x 35 cm and the height varies from 6 cm (2.3") in the centre to 11 cm (4.3") at the sides.

Can you wash the Groove Air Cooling pillow?
The Groove Air pillow is standard memory foam and cannot be washed.
But the cover does come with set washing instructions.
- Machine washable at 30°C
- Do not bleach
- Do not tumble dry
- Do not iron
Of course, it's best to use an additional pillowcase as well.

Around 90% of Groove orders are dispatched the same day (Monday - Friday) from its UK warehouse, with 24- and 48-hour tracked delivery options.
There is a minimum order value to qualify for free delivery, but delivery costs for anything else sit under £5, so it won't break the bank.
Plus, you'll easily qualify for free delivery if you order two pillows or a pillow and pillowcase pair (recommended).
The Air Cooling pillow comes with a 100-night trial, which Groove markets under a "pain relief or your money back" guarantee.
It's rare for pillows to come with such a long trial period, so this is well worth drawing attention to.
If the pillow doesn't work for you for any reason, simply contact Groove customer support and they'll get you sorted.
Please be aware, though, that you have to keep all of the original packaging and you must contact Groove first before sending the pillow back.

Should you buy the Groove Air pillow?
Put together, the Groove Air's combination of ventilation-based cooling, certified materials, and a 100-night trial makes it a compelling option for hot sleepers and side sleepers looking for neck support at a lower price point than most gel-infused competitors.
The Air Cooling pillow fared super well in our review - it's really supportive, just like the original option, and feels cool and comfortable to the touch.
