  • Those looking for something stylish and customisable.
  • Sleepers who aren't yet sure about sofa beds and require a trial to see if it works for them.

Bruno sofa bed composition

While looking at the composition of a sofa bed may not sound like the most interesting topic, it’s actually the compositional elements that make the Bruno sofa bed stand out!

The main features include:

  • Solid wood frame with Nosag suspension for long-lasting stability
  • 675 thermally-tempered pocket springs for both sitting and sleeping comfort
  • A smooth, patented folding mechanism that allows for folding and unfolding within 15 seconds
  • Abrasion-resistant upholstery cover with an abrasion value of at least 81,000 Martindale [1], suggesting that this sofa's fabric will withstand the test of time, even with frequent use.

We'll look at how these design and compositional features make the Bruno sofa special in more detail further down, but it's already worth saying that sofa beds with pocket-sprung mattresses are not the norm.

Most budget-friendly sofa beds have thin all-foam mattresses that lack support, but a pocket spring mattress like the one in the Bruno sofa bed has been designed for better support and a more comfortable sleep - even with continued use.

The sofa bed features 675 pocket springs for superior support and thermoregulation.

Bruno sofa bed design and customisations

The Bruno sofa bed has a straightforward and timeless design.

While individual style preferences vary, of course, we really think this sofa could fit into any room and match any home decor style. 🎨

Bruno sofa bed arm rest
The sofa bed has a timeless design, but customisation options are available.

At first glance, you’d never say that this was a sofa bed - pretty ideal.

You can also choose from a variety of colours and customise armrest styles, foot variants, and even the size of the sofa to create an elegant sofa bed that best matches exactly what you need.

Let’s look at some of these customisations in more detail. 🧐

Which colour sofa would you like?

The Bruno sofa bed is available in six different colours.

These include:

  • Light grey fabric
  • Dark grey fabric
  • Turquoise fabric
  • Blue fabric
  • Beige fabric
  • Green fabric

So regardless of whether you want a timeless piece for your office or a statement piece that pops for your living room, Bruno has a colour option for you.

Choose one of six colours for your Bruno sofa bed.

The Bruno fabric used for all colours is made of abrasion-resistant 100% polyester that’s super easy to clean. 🫧

Customise the armrest style

You can also choose one of three armrest styles, which all give a slightly different feel to the sofa bed.

the bruno sofa bed has classic, cube, or slim designs
Choose the classic, cube, or slim armrest design.

Options include:

  • Classic: A traditional armrest style
  • Cube: A more bulky, rectangular design
  • Slim: A more elegant version of the cube design

Conveniently, the price of the sofa bed doesn’t change between the options, so you can design away without worrying about any extra costs.

Foot variants to complete the look

The cube and slim armrests sit directly on the floor, but the classic option rests on feet. 👣

bruno sofa bed metal feet and wooden feet
Choose metal feet or wooden feet for your Bruno sofa.

If you order the classic-style armrest, two sofa feet options are automatically included with your delivery:

  • Metal feet: A more modern look to make your sofa stand out
  • Wooden feet: Traditional wooden feet for a more timeless look

You can chop and change the feet as you wish, so you could technically change your sofa style depending on the occasion.

Bruno sofa bed wooden feet
We love the classic look of the wooden feet.

We'd recommend getting felt furniture pads to place on the bottom of the feet - these may fit slightly better on the wooden feet but you could also make them work for the metal option.

In which sizes is the Bruno sofa bed available?

In addition to being able to customise colours, armrests, and sofa feet, you can also choose which size sofa bed you'd like. 🥳

Bruno offers the sleeper sofa in either a 2- or 3-seater option.

While the exact size dimensions of the sofa depend on which armrest option you choose, the 2- or 3-seater options significantly the sleeping surface available once the sofa is converted into a bed.

The sleeping surfaces of the two sizes are as follows:

  • 2-seater sofa: 140 x 200 cm (4’6” x 6’6”)
  • 3-seater sofa: 160 x 200 cm (5’2” x 6’6”)

These sizes match European mattress sizes, and the options would correlate to the EU double mattress and EU king mattress, and can comfortably sleep up to 2 people.

UK mattress sizes
The Bruno sleeping surface doesn’t match UK mattress sizes.

This is fabulous if you have bedding to fit EU mattresses, but it could be slightly inconvenient for UK-sized bedding, especially if you’re after fitted sheets.

Inconveniently, UK mattress sizes are slightly different, with the UK double only measuring 135 x 190 cm and the UK king only measuring 150 x 200 cm. 🇬🇧

If you're looking for something more compact, consider the Bruno chair bed instead.

The Dreams Gallway 3-Seater Clic-Clac sofa bed is another good alternative if you’re looking for a specific UK-sized product.

Check it out below:

How comfortable is the Bruno sofa bed?

There are dozens of different sofa beds on the market, but very few are actually comfortable - especially for long-term use.

So what did our testers think of the seating and sleeping comfort of the Bruno sleeper sofa?

Let’s take a look.

Using the product as an actual sofa

Sitting on the Bruno sofa is very comfortable. 🛋️

With a seat height of 43 cm (17 inches), the sofa is not too high and not too low - like a perfect Goldilocks - and will even be well-suited to children and pets climbing up on to the sofa (of course, this does depend on the size of your child/pet).

The Bruno is very comfortable as a sofa.

The sitting surface is also firm but not overly hard, with both cushions and backrests providing some give without the feel that you’re collapsing into the materials.

Overall, our testers enjoyed sitting on the Bruno sofa.

Using the product as a bed

The most important feature of a sleeper sofa is undoubtedly its sleeping comfort. 😴

After all, if it weren’t for the sleeping option, you’d just be getting a regular sofa.

So how does the Bruno sofa bed perform?

Our testers rated the sleeping surface as relatively firm, ranking it at a 7 out of 10 on the Sleep Hero firmness scale, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest.

Bruno sofa bed firmness of sleeping surface

But, despite the firmness, the bed also offered good body contouring and pressure relief, largely due to the presence of individual pocket springs that provide targeted support. 🌀

For most people who enjoy a firmer feel, the Bruno sofa bed is ideal.

It'll also be particularly well suited to back sleepers and stomach sleepers, who both need firmer surfaces to allow for proper spinal alignment.

As an aside: Sofa beds that use the seating area as a sleeping surface are generally firmer, while sofa beds with an integrated mattress underneath are typically softer (though less suportive). You can check out our best sofa beds article for more great options.

Since the Bruno sofa bed is of great quality and offers excellent support, it could also be used for a longer period of time.

However, we would recommend adding a quilted cover or topper for permanent use to cover the small grooves on the bed.

Bruno sofa bed in bed position
Using a quilted cover will even out the sleeping surface.

A softer mattress topper is also a must if you're after a softer sleeping surface. 👍

Bruno does sell a Bruno mattress topper made of high-resilience cold foam, but unfortunately this is not yet available in the UK.

You will also be restricted in which toppers you’d get in the UK since you’d need to find one that matches EU mattress dimensions.

Luckily, one of our favourite softer mattress toppers, the Panda bamboo memory foam topper, is available in both UK and EU sizes.

How do you convert the Bruno from sofa into bed?

The Bruno sofa bed comes with a patented folding mechanism that allows you to transform the product from sofa into bed in just 15 seconds. ⏰

Bruno sofa bed pull-out handle
The pull-out handle at the bottom of the seat section makes converting the product from a sofa into a bed super easy - tug it away when not in use.

Our testers could use the mechanism with no assistance by relying on the practical pull tab under the seat.

To unfold the sofa, you simply need to:

  • Remove the back pillows.
  • Lift the seat cushion section and position the footrest (included with delivery) to protect the fabric from damage.
  • Put your foot on the footrest for support while pulling out the seat section using the conveniently-placed handle.

You can also skip the footrest and simply place your foot under the seat section while pulling out for extra support.

Simply lift and pull for a 15-second sofa-to-bed conversion.

We’d recommend the latter as it’s slightly easier.

You can see everything in action in this video:

Conveniently, there is some ottoman-style storage at the bottom of the actual sofa section where you can store the backrest pillows while the sofa is in its bed position. 😅

Simply reverse the above steps when folding the sofa bed back together.

Bruno sofa bed storage space for pillows
There’s storage space within the sofa to place the backrest pillows.

Folding and unfolding the Bruno sofa bed is remarkably easy - much quicker than other sofa beds we’ve tried.

This makes the Bruno sofa a fabulous product for anyone looking for a quick, easy sleeping solution.

What does the Bruno sofa bed cost?

The Bruno sofa bed is an excellent product, but it’s not the cheapest on the market.

Considering the high quality of craftsmanship, the 30-day trial, and the 10-year guarantee, however, the Bruno sofa bed offers great value for money.

If you consider that the Bruno sofa bed is expected to last 10 years (there’s a 10-year guarantee), your per-year cost of the sofa bed is quite low.

To be safe, let’s say the product only lasts 7 years.

This still then works out to only £200 per year for the 2-seater option, or 50 pence a day.

Comparing quality to price
Despite its relatively high cost, the Bruno sofa bed offers great value for money.

That’s definitely not bad for a space-savvy sleeping solution.

Can you get a Bruno sofa bed discount code?

Bruno doesn’t offer coupons or discount codes as a standard.

But, we do occasionally have a Sleep Hero exclusive discount code that can get you some £££ off your purchase.

If we do have a discount code available, you’ll see it advertised throughout this article. 😉

Bruno sofa bed delivery conditions

Bruno offers free shipping within the UK within 1 - 2 weeks of placing your order. 🇬🇧

Furdeco [2] handles all shipping, and 2-man delivery to the room of your choice is automatically included. 🙎‍♂️🙎‍♂️

This is super convenient, as the Bruno sofa bed is quite heavy, weighing in at around 100 kg (220 lbs).

Bruno sofa bed delivery
The Bruno sofa bed is delivered in two parts.

The delivery team will just deliver the product; you will have to assemble it yourself, but look out for frequent "free assembly" promotions that run during peak times like Black Friday.

Even if you have to put the sofa bed together yourself, you'll be relieved to hear that this is quite an easy task.

Putting the sofa bed together

Unboxing and assembling furniture can be a daunting task. 🤯

We’ve all been there, sitting in front of a pile of furniture parts with instructions that make zero sense.

Luckily, our reviewers were pleasantly surprised at just how easy it was to assemble the Bruno sofa.

Bruno sofa bed delivery accessories box
Everything you need is included in the delivery.

The sofa is delivered in two parts: the actual frame and an accessories box with all the tools you need, including an easy-to-follow instruction manual. 🎁

One of our reviewers actually put the sofa together by herself in just 20 minutes, without any prior experience in furniture assembly.

This is definitely a testament to the exceptional design of the sofa bed.

The Bruno sofa bed trial period

Conveniently, the Bruno sofa bed comes with a 30-day trial period.

Trials are usually reserved for mattresses - but you’re sleeping on a sofa bed, after all, so it’d make sense that you have a chance to test the product too!

Graphic explaining how a trial period works

The only other sofa bed we've come across with a trial is the Emma sofa bed, so this is certainly a feature that makes the Bruno sofa bed stand out. 🤩

The trial works as follows:

  • Your 30-day trial begins with delivery.
  • You then have up to 30 days to sit and sleep on the sofa.
  • If you’re not 100% satisfied with the product, you’ll need to contact Bruno, and they’ll pick up the sofa bed free of charge and give you a full refund.

Just ensure the product isn’t damaged during the trial.

We’d recommend using a waterproof mattress protector underneath your sheets while sleeping and covering the sofa with a throw during the day. 💦

Conveniently, a few of our favourite UK sleep brands sell waterproof mattress protectors in EU sizes.

UK brands with EU-sized mattress protectors:

Should you buy the Bruno sofa bed?

The Bruno is an exceptional sofa bed made of high-quality materials, a unique box-spring system, and an easy pull-out mechanism. ✨

Our reviewers were thoroughly impressed by the quality of the sofa bed.

We’d recommend it to people looking for a sofa bed to sleep on for extended periods of time - like if you have a small space and need a convenient and space-savvy sleeping solution. 🗓️

The only downside to the sofa bed is that the sleeping surface dimensions don’t quite match standard UK dimensions.

This is fine for general bedding, and you can also get high-quality mattress protectors in EU dimensions in the UK, but you may have a harder time finding excellent-quality fitted sheets. 🇪🇺🇬🇧

There are various options available at IKEA and on Amazon, though, so this shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the Bruno sofa bed.

Frequently asked questions

  • Where can I buy the Bruno sofa bed?

In the UK, the Bruno sofa bed is only available for purchase directly from the Bruno UK website.

The company has a few showrooms in Europe where you can see the products.

Unfortunately, there are currently no Bruno showrooms in the UK.

  • Does the Bruno sofa bed come with a guarantee?

Yes, the Bruno sofa bed comes with a 10-year warranty.

This is a much longer warranty period than what’s available with many other sofa bed brands we’ve seen.

  • Can you tell me more about Bruno, the company?

In 2012, Felix Baer and Andreas Bauer founded Bruno, a start-up based in Berlin.

Their goal was to design the ultimate mattress that surpassed the price-performance ratio of those available in traditional stores.

Today, Bruno has expanded beyond Germany and operates in other European countries and the United Kingdom.

The brand also offers a range of other products, including beds, sofa beds, sofas, and mattress toppers.

Read our reviews on the Bruno chair bed and the Bruno corner sofa.

For more on the company, read our exclusive interview with one of Bruno's Managing Directors, Marc Pohl.
  • How do I take care of my Bruno sofa bed?

The Bruno sofa bed is made with abrasion-resistant fabrics and should require very little maintenance.

You can spot-clean the sofa with a little distilled water and a cotton cloth if need be.

  • How much weight can the Bruno sofa bed support?

The Bruno sofa bed can handle more weight than many other sofa beds since it’s made of solid wood.

But, the total weight of people on the sofa bed shouldn’t exceed 220 kg (485 lbs).
