Mattress Protectors

A mattress protector, as the name suggests, serves a protective function. It protects the mattress from moisture, dirt, and bacteria.

We highly recommend a waterproof mattress protector for toddlers and babies, as well as for those suffering from incontinence.

People who suffer from allergies or those who sweat heavily will also reap the benefits of a mattress protector.

A mattress protector is placed on the mattress and usually held in position by its elasticated corners.

Here is our advice on what to look out for when buying a mattress protector.

Choose the right material

The most important thing to focus on when choosing your mattress protector is the right material. There is a minimal price difference between different mattress protectors. Most mattress protectors cost between £5 - £30.

Cotton (Molton)

For most people, a mattress protector made of cotton (Molton) is a good choice. Cotton mattress protectors are hygienic and can be washed at 60 degrees. In addition, they are very breathable, robust, and keep their shape well.

Cold foam

Cold foam mattress protectors have an additional orthopaedic function. However, breathability is not quite as good as with cotton mattress protectors. Cold foam protectors are especially suitable for people with back problems or patients who are bedridden as these provide extra pressure relief.

Wool and wool-mix fabric

A wool mattress protector offers extra warmth. It is particularly suitable for people who often feel cold, especially in winter. The disadvantage of a mattress protector made of wool or a wool-mix fabric is that it should only be washed by hand.

How do you attach a mattress protector?

A good mattress protector should be non-slip. This is especially important for restless sleepers. Most mattress protectors have elasticated corners with which the protector is attached to the mattress. Some mattress protectors can also be attached through sheet suspenders or binder clips.
