What is the Zoma mattress?

The Zoma mattress is a premium foam mattress designed to provide optimal support, pressure relief, and cooling comfort for a restorative night's sleep.

zoma foam mattress
The Zoma is a 3-layer foam mattress with an extra-breathable cover.

Crafted with advanced foam technology, including responsive memory foam and supportive base foam, the Zoma mattress is engineered to promote muscle recovery and enhance sleep quality, making it ideal for athletes and active individuals.

What are Zoma mattresses made of?

The original mattress consists of three layers: a supportive base foam layer, a responsive transition foam layer, and a cooling gel memory foam layer.

Let’s take a closer look at the Zoma mattress composition. 👇

1. Airy Zoma mattress cover

The Zoma mattress cover is made of a soft, breathable mesh fabric called AirCloth (97% polyester and 3% spandex).

This ultra-stretchy knitted fabric promotes airflow and helps regulate temperature for a cooler and more comfortable sleep surface.

We found this to be a very high-quality cover - the fabric certainly has a good finish.

Unfortunately, this is a non-removable cover (but it still has a zipper, so you can open it up to look at the layers inside, like we did for our Zoma mattress review), and it cannot be washed.

There are also no carrying handles on the cover, which makes the mattress a little tricky to be carried and moved.

2. Gel memory foam

The top layer of breathable and perforated gel-infused memory foam is designed to provide cooler comfort while still allowing for the pressure-relieving capabilities of memory foam.

Traditionally, memory foam sleeps quite hot, but the gel infusion allows for enhanced airflow, making the material slightly cooler.

3. Reactiv™️ layer

This highly responsive layer allows for enhanced support and counteracts the "feeling-stuck-in-the-mattress" side effects of memory foam.

4. Support+ layer

The Support+ base of the mattress adds extra support, allowing for better spinal alignment and enhancing the durability of the mattress.

How firm is the Zoma mattress?

The Zoma mattress is designed with a medium firmness level, providing a balance of comfort and support suitable for a wide range of sleepers.

It's supportive enough to keep your spine properly aligned while still offering enough cushioning to relieve pressure points and promote a restful night's sleep.

We would rate it a 6 out of 10 on the Sleep Hero firmness scale, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest.

Despite the good firmness, we did feel that the mattress lacked some edge support.

We noticed this when running a few more precise sitting and kneeling tests, but it's unlikely you'll find this to be an issue while sleeping.

How comfortable is the Zoma mattress?

The Zoma mattress has been engineered for maximum comfort.

Its layers of responsive memory foam contour to your body and provide targeted support where you need it most.

memory foam imprint of zoma mattress
The imprint is a clear sign of the quality of the memory foam in this mattress.

Memory foam, as a standard, gets softer as it heats up.

This allows it to mould around your body, supporting you exactly where required, easing pressure points and aiding optimal spinal alignment in the process.

We definitely felt that this was true of the Zoma mattress. We tested it while sleeping, but you can also see the memory foam imprint in the picture above.

Given the firmness of the mattress, we felt that it offered good support despite the softness of the memory foam, making it suitable for a wide variety of sleepers.

This is what our tester (slim build with a height of 5’8 and weight of 55 kg / 120 lb) had to say with regard to comfort in different sleeping positions:

  • Sleeping on the stomach: Very comfortable (though we'd always recommend you don't sleep on your stomach to avoid unnecessary neck strain).
  • Sleeping on the back: This position is very comfortable and definitely well-suited to this mattress. Our tester also felt that they didn't need a pillow in this position as the mattress itself moulded around the body well enough to give perfect support.
  • Sleeping on the side: This sleeping position was still comfortable, but it didn't feel ideal, as the tester wasn't heavy enough to sink into the foams deeply enough for optimal spinal alignment.

Given that our test sleeper was on the lighter side, we can comfortably conclude that the Zoma mattress would be an excellent fit for lighter-weight stomach or back sleepers and a great fit for average-weight back and side sleepers.

Does the Zoma mattress sleep hot?

While memory foam traditionally sleeps quite hot, the Zoma mattress is designed with cooling technology to help regulate temperature and prevent overheating during sleep.

zoma mattress cover
The breathable knitted mesh cover allows for greater airflow and enhanced breathability.

These technologies include:

  • The ultra-breathable knitted mesh cover is designed to enhance airflow.
  • The top layer of gel memory foam is infused with cooling gel beads that dissipate heat away from the body.

This gives the Zoma greater temperature-regulating features, which was affirmed by our tester:

"I wouldn’t say that I’ve noticed any additional heat coming from the bed; if anything, it is cooling”.

This is excellent news for hot sleepers who are after a memory foam feel.

However, it's always worth keeping in mind that memory foam, by definition, retains more heat than other materials. 🔥

Very hot sleepers or heavy sweaters will do better on other types of mattresses, such as hybrid mattresses or pocket-sprung mattresses.

Does the Zoma mattress have good motion isolation?

Memory foam usually has excellent motion isolation.

Surprisingly, though, our tester felt that the Zoma mattress had quite a bouncy feel.

Sharing the bed with a partner, our tester could definitely feel the partner getting up and switching sleeping positions.

This is not ideal if you're a light sleeper or share your bed with a very restless partner. 😔

However, if you're a deep sleeper or don't share your bed, this won't be an issue for you at all.

We tested the king-size Zoma mattress and would always recommend that couples choose larger mattress sizes for a more comfortable sleep.

Zoma mattress UK sizes

The Zoma mattress is available in a range of UK sizes, including:

You can choose the size that best fits your needs and preferences, but we suggest that couples stick to the larger mattress sizes.

How thick is the Zoma mattress?

The original Zoma mattress has a height of 30 cm (12 inches).

This is slightly higher than the bed-in-a-box standard (which rests at 25 cm / 10 inches), so you'll get more of that luxurious feel with the Zoma mattress.

height of the zoma mattress
The Zoma mattress measures 30 cm (12") in height, but there may be a 1 -2 cm (0.4" - 0.8") difference in your mattress.

Your standard bedding will still fit, but keep in mind that you may need extra-deep bedding if you're adding a mattress topper to your Zoma.

Zoma UK delivery conditions

The Zoma mattress is delivered directly to your door in a compact box made from recycled materials.

Delivery is free within mainland Britain, and we found the whole delivery process quick and easy.

The delivery team even offered room-of-choice delivery, which we found quite helpful as the box itself is big and heavy.

Unfortunately, the packaging wasn't very good - the box itself was already half falling apart by the time it was delivered, and it was quite cumbersome to move.

zoma mattress box damaged
The box was quite damaged by the time it arrived.

Luckily, though, the mattress itself wasn't damaged.

To unbox, simply open the box, unroll the mattress onto your bed frame or foundation, and allow it to expand to its full size.

Conveniently, Zoma Sleep offers a free old mattress removal service - simply select this option on checkout.

Old mattresses are recycled, while returned mattresses are refurbished.

We answer some Zoma delivery FAQs below.

How long does it take for a Zoma mattress to expand?

Once unboxed, the Zoma mattress typically expands to its full size within 24 - 48 hours.

Ours went quite quickly - you could even hear the sound of the air gushing in - and it reached its full height within an hour.

It will continue to firm up over the next 24 to 48 hours, but you can already sleep on the mattress.

Does the Zoma mattress smell?

Upon unpacking, there was a slight off-gassing smell that hung in the air for a day.

We recommend opening a few windows while you're unboxing your new mattress.

Does the Zoma mattress come with a trial period?

Conveniently, the Zoma mattress comes with a 100-night sleep trial.

This gives you the chance to try out the mattress in the comfort of your own home and decide if it's right for you.

If you're not completely satisfied, you can return the mattress for a full refund within the trial period.

If you're not happy with your Zoma mattress, you can return it for a full refund.

Please note, though, that you can only return the mattress after the first 30 nights.

Since it does take some time to get used to a new mattress, Zoma wants to ensure that you make full use of the adjustment period before making up your mind.

If you do wish to return before the 30-night mark, Zoma will charge a shipping fee.

Does the Zoma mattress come with a guarantee?

The Zoma mattress also comes with a 10-year guarantee, so you can rest easy knowing your investment is protected.

If you experience any defects in materials or workmanship during the warranty period, Zoma will repair or replace your mattress at no additional cost.
