This sounds good in theory, but how does it actually work? 🤔

And is the Kally adjustable pillow all it promises to be?

  • The hollowfibre filling is cool and comfortable.
  • The pillow can be very soft or very firm, depending on your customisations.

Kally Sleep adjustable pillow composition

The Kally Sleep Adjustable Pillow is more than just one pillow.

In fact, it's closer to four pillows in one!

That's because each Kally Pillow contains four easy-to-remove inner sleep pads, which look just like miniature pillows. 🤩

The Kally Pillow is made of two primary materials:

  • 100% polycotton pillow cover
  • Hollowfibre filling in each pillow pad

We'll get to the polycotton cover a little further down. 👇

But, first, let's consider the hollowfibre filling.

Kally adjustable pillow materials

Why hollowfibre?

Hollowfibre is a synthetic material made from fine strands of polyester.

It's one of the most popular bedding materials, mainly because it's affordable, machine-washable, and hypoallergenic.

This makes it an excellent choice for people prone to allergies. 🤧

Hollowfibre pillows are plump and springy and usually offer medium-firm to firm support.

But, of course, this will differ for the Kally Sleep Adjustable pillow as you can customise it to suit your needs!

And how exactly do you do that?

Well, we'll get to that in the next section. 🥳

Kally pillow composition breakdown

What does sleeping on the Kally pillow feel like?

Unlike "normal" pillows that can be described as soft or firm or high or low, the Kally pillow isn't that easy to describe.

After all, the comfort you feel will depend largely on how many sleep pads you choose to keep!

The pillow will feel one way if you use it with just one sleep pad and completely different if you use it with all four sleep pads. 😳

Luckily, we like being the Sleep Hero guinea pigs, so we tried the Kally Sleep adjustable pillow over numerous nights to test all the different options.

Overall comfort & feel of the Kally Sleep pillow

Overall, it's important to remember that the Kally is a hollowfibre pillow.

This means it'll have that typical hollowfibre sponginess that will feel closer to more traditional pillows.

Many customisable pillows, like the Emma pillow and the Nectar pillow, are made from memory foam.

Memory foam versus traditional pillows

Memory foam offers unique contouring that'll cradle your head.

It moulds to the exact shape of your body for superior support and pressure relief. 🤗

You won't have this feeling with the Kally pillow.

Is memory foam better?

  • Many people like memory foam pillows because they feel sturdier and more supportive.
  • But even though memory foam is a more premium material, just as many people find memory foam pillows too rigid.

If you're in the latter group, then the Kally adjustable pillow may just be the right fit for you. 😴

It's the perfect pillow for both a cuddle and a good night's sleep.

Kally pillow comfort with four sleep pads

When you get the Kally Sleep pillow, it'll be thick and lofty.

That's because all four sleep pads will be stuffed into the cover. 4️⃣

Since the pillow comes this way, we decided to test this option first.

Keeping all four sleep pads does two things:

  • It creates a very firm pillow.
  • It creates a very high loft pillow.

This can be great for some people, but it won't be suitable for everyone.

We really enjoyed sleeping on the Kally pillow with all four sleep pads. 👍

The pillow felt cushiony and comfortable and offered good support all night long.

It also never felt too warm, which is a bonus.

Sleeping on a high-loft pillow is especially good for side sleepers, who need more volume to fill the space between neck and mattress.

Comparable pillows, like the Nectar pillow, only have three layers, so the Kally Sleep pillow is quite a bit higher!

It may be one of the best choices for side sleepers of larger build who need a very high loft pillow!

We look at adjustability and sleeping position in more detail further down. 👇

Kally pillow full
The Kally pillow is quite thick with all sleep pads

Kally pillow comfort with three sleep pads

Keeping 3 of the 4 sleep pads felt like the optimal way to use the Kally adjustable pillow.

The pillow cover didn't feel as stretched, the pillow never felt too high, and overall it still had the same firmness as with 4 sleep pads.

We also tried combining the Kally Sleep pillow with both a memory foam pillow and a regular down pillow, and the combination of both worked well.

The height and firmness of the 3 Kally Sleep layers offered really good support for the neck and provided nice sinkage for the head.

Overall, it gave us that snuggly, comfortable feel. 🥰

Again, sleeping on the pillow never felt too hot, and we woke up feeling refreshed and relaxed.

Kally pillow comfort with two sleep pads

The Kally Sleep pillow with three sleep pads seemed like the happy medium.

Remove another filling, though, and the pillow begins to feel a bit thin and stripped back of its features. 🤔

With just two fillings, the Kally Sleep pillow felt a bit low and uncomfortable - and definitely lacking in support.

We woke up feeling fine, but getting to sleep was difficult, and we found ourselves grabbing for more pillows during the night.

You may like the 2-filling Kally if you're a more petite back sleeper or a stomach sleeper.

We'll go into more details on this further down. 👇

Kally Sleep sleep pads removed
With all sleep inserts removed, the pillow is flat and lifeless

Kally pillow comfort with one sleep pad

If you just keep one of the sleep pads in your Kally Sleep pillow, you'll end up with a thin, flat pillow that won't offer much support.

We didn't like this at all. 😟

But, this will probably be one of the best options for stomach sleepers, who'll need a pillow as flat as possible to keep their spine in the best alignment.

A healthy spinal alignment will be difficult to achieve for any stomach sleeper, but a good pillow can help.

What if you need more adjustability?

Customisable pillows with different layers - like the Kally Sleep pillow, Nectar pillow, and Emma pillow - can only be adjusted to a certain degree. 😐

If you need a pillow that offers greater customisation, it may be worth looking into shredded foam pillows.

The Simba Hybrid pillow, for example, features shredded memory foam.

You can take out as much or as little filling as you want, so you can get the pillow perfectly matched to your requirements.

Not all shredded foam pillows are adjustable, though. 🤔

MyPillow UK, for example, features shredded foam but you cannot remove any of the fillings.

Try the shredded foam Simba pillow:

How to adjust the Kally Sleep pillow according to your sleeping position

The great thing about the Kally pillow is that you can adjust it to suit your sleeping position.

As we saw above, the number of sleep pads you choose to keep will significantly affect how the pillow feels. 👌

For us, as side & back sleepers, some combinations felt better than others.

But which combination works best for you will depend largely on your sleep position.

Correct pillow alignment

Side sleepers

Over 70% of adults sleep on their side.

It'll make sense, then, that so many pillows cater to side sleepers.

Side sleepers generally need higher loft pillows that offer a good combination of firmness and sinkage.

The exact loft will differ from person to person, as it'll depend on the distance from your neck to your shoulders. 📏

Side sleepers
Side sleepers do well on higher loft pillows

A pillow should adequately fill the space between your neck and the mattress.

If you're of a larger build, you may require a higher loft pillow than someone of a more petite build. 👩

For the Kally Sleep pillow, three or four of the sleeping pads will probably work best.

These are firm enough to give you the necessary support and enough loft to fill the space between neck and mattress.

Back sleepers

Sleeping on your back is the healthiest, as it puts the least amount of pressure on your spine.

Your pillow should help keep you in the best alignment. 📐

The perfect pillow for back sleepers is medium-firm with a medium loft.

If the pillow is too high, your neck will be pushed forward.

If it is too low, your neck will bend back.

Both of these will create a misalignment in your upper spine. 🦴

For the Kally pillow, you'll probably do best on two or three of the sleeping pads, depending on your build and size.

Back sleepers
Back sleepers generally do well on medium-firm, medium-loft pillows

Stomach sleepers

Sleeping on your stomach isn't great for your spine - or neck.

Stomach sleepers often complain about a stiff neck.

This makes sense, of course, as your head has to be turned to one side all night long so you can breathe. 👃

Staying in this one position will create pressure points all along your neck and shoulders.

While this can't be changed, you can help spinal alignment overall by choosing a low loft pillow.

If the pillow is too high, your spine and neck also have to bend upwards, creating extra tension.

Stomach sleepers
Stomach sleepers need a flatter pillow

Some stomach sleepers like sleeping without a pillow, but we recommend using a thin pillow, so you at least have some lift.

The Kally Sleep pillow with one or two pads is perfect for this.

Kally Sleep pillow cover

The Kally adjustable pillow looks very elegant.

It comes with a pure white 100% cotton quilted outer cover.

Why quilted?

Quilted covers often feel much more luxurious.

But for the Kally pillow, the quilted cover also serves a more practical purpose. 👨‍🔧

Since you can swap out the inner pads, you need a cover that's thick enough to feel comfortable no matter how many layers are in the actual pillow.

You also need a cover that's thick enough, so you don't feel the individual layers.

The quilted cover does this perfectly.

You'll find a similar quilted cover on the Nectar adjustable pillow, which has the same effect and feels very comfortable.

Breathability & airflow

Conveniently, the side of the cover also features an air vent system, which allows for a steady flow of air through the pillow. 💨

This is necessary to wick away moisture, carry away heat, and keep you cool and comfortable.

Synthetic fibres like hollowfibre are often not as temperature-regulating as natural materials, so they require a little extra technology to keep them breathable. ❄️

Washable pillow
You can wash your Kally pillow

Can you wash the Kally pillow?

The great thing about (most) synthetic fibres is that they're washable. 🛀

The Kally pillow is fully machine-washable at 40℃.

This high temperature can effectively kill dust mites and bacteria, making the Kally pillow a great anti-allergen choice for people prone to sniffles. 🤧

Once washed, leave the pillow to dry naturally on a flat surface.

This will ensure that it keeps its shape.

Being washable is a great selling point for the Kally Pillow!

Other adjustable pillows, like the Simba Hybrid pillow, tend to rely on memory foam and they cannot be washed.

Kally Sleep pillow sizes

The Kally pillow comes in the standard 70 x 40 cm (27.5 x 15.7 inches) dimension.

At its highest, the pillow will stretch a full 22 cm (8.6 inches).

This is very, very high for a pillow. ⛰

The Nectar adjustable pillow, which is similar, only has a maximum height of 14 cm (5.5 inches).

If you usually like sleeping on two pillows, the Kally pillow will be perfect for you.

But, of course, the pillow's height is adjustable, and it'll depend on how many of the sleep pads you keep.

The Kally pillow, with all pads, weighs 900 g (1.9 lbs). 🏋️‍♀️

We'd recommend buying some of the Kally pillowcases together with your pillow.

They're made of 200-thread count cotton and are very affordable.

Try the Kally pillowcase:

Kally Sleep pillow prices

The Kally adjustable pillow is one of the most affordable customisable pillows on the market in the UK.

It comes in at a minimum of 45% cheaper than some of the other options out there! 🥳

But, we have to add that this has a lot to do with the quality of materials.

Price-performance ratio

Even though the Kally pillow doesn't rely on cheap and inferior materials, it is still made of hollowfibre.

This is generally a cheaper option.

Many of the other customisable pillows, like the Nectar, Simba, and Emma, are made of high-density memory foam, which is a much more premium - and hence more expensive - material. 💰

Kally Sleep pillow trial period & returns

The Kally adjustable pillow comes with a convenient 14-day trial period.

We love trial periods.

They give you the chance to test the pillow at home in real-life conditions. 🏡

If you're not 100% satisfied, you can return the pillow for a full refund.

You'll receive your refund within 5 - 10 working days.

Pillow trial return period

Fourteen days is plenty to decide whether or not you like a pillow.

Many comparable brands - like Nectar and Simba - don't offer any trials on their pillows.

But, some other comparable brands offer even longer trial periods:

It's also worth remembering that the Kally trial is not an entirely risk-free operation. ☹️

The customer will have to cover the costs of the postal returns.

Flash Sale items don't come with the return option.

What happens with returned pillows?

For hygiene reasons, Kally Sleep cannot resell returned pillows.

Instead, they've partnered with the Marylebone Project, a charity organisation that provides accommodation and support to women who are homeless or in need of short-term housing. 🙍‍♀️

Should you buy the Kally Sleep pillow?

The Kally adjustable pillow is a great invention, and we enjoyed sleeping on it. 💤

You'll be able to customise it to suit your needs exactly.

We'd recommend the Kally adjustable pillow to:

  • Sleepers looking for an affordable pillow.
  • Back, stomach, and side sleepers who want a customisable solution.
  • Sleepers looking for a simple pillow that does its job without fluff or fuss.

Even though we liked the Kally pillow, it's worth remembering that this is still an entry-level adjustable pillow.

The materials are good, but overall the pillow can't compare to more premium memory foam options like the Nectar pillow or the 100% customisable Simba pillow.

Kally Sleep can best be described as a pillow expert.

The company launched its first product - the Kally Body Pillow - in 2018.

Since then, that product alone has helped 40,000 people with sleep issues.

Today, Kally Sleep offers a range of pillows to suit a wide variety of needs and combat dozens of issues, including pregnancy pains, neck pains, and lumbar support.

The products are designed together with experts, doctors, physiotherapists, and chiropractors to make sure they'll actually help Kally customers sleep better.

Yes, you can buy Kally pillows on Amazon in the UK.

But we'd always recommend purchasing directly from the brand's website.

That way, you're guaranteed the best prices and the original quality.

  • Are Kally pillows good quality?

Kally Sleep proudly displays dozens of five-star reviews for all of the pillows on their website.

Most Kally pillows also have a 4.5-star rating on Amazon, and the company as a whole has a 3.7-star rating on Trustpilot.

Sometimes star ratings are worth gold, but other times they can be a little misleading.

We think that Kally pillows are of good quality and offer great value for money.

But it's important to remember that these are still budget pillows, and they won't necessarily compare as favourably to some of the more premium ranges.
