The IKEA Tussöy is the only IKEA mattress topper available on Amazon in the UK - albeit only in European sizes.
The IKEA Tussöy is one of IKEA’s most popular mattress toppers.
Made of polyurethane memory foam with a density of 50 kg / cu.m, this mattress pad has been designed to mould to your body, enabling pressure relief and allowing your muscles to relax. 🤗
Stretch fabric on the topside creates a soft sleeping surface.
Memory foam is very responsive to temperature. It will be firmer in lower temperatures and softer in higher temperatures.
The polyester cover is removable and can be machine-washed at 60 ℃. 🧽
Like the other IKEA mattress toppers, the IKEA Tussöy is roll-packed for easy transportation.
The IKEA Tussöy is also available via Amazon in the UK, though you'll only be able to purchase the European imports at a higher price.

The IKEA Tustna is a latex and wool mattress topper.
It features:
- 25% natural latex
- 75% synthetic latex
- Polyester wadding
- Wool wadding comfort material
This is IKEA UK’s most expensive mattress topper and should offer the best quality.
Unfortunately, the polyester mattress pad cover is not removable and cannot be washed. 🧼
We’d recommend using it together with a mattress protector to help keep it clean and hygienic.

The IKEA mattress topper range
IKEA has a wide range of mattress toppers in various firmness levels and materials, including polyurethane memory foam, latex, and cotton.
Currently, only three of them are available in the United Kingdom. 🇬🇧
These include the:
- Talgje, an IKEA foam mattress topper,
- Tustna, an IKEA latex mattress topper with wool, and the
- Tussöy, an IKEA memory foam mattress topper.
The US & European ranges include a few more, such as the natural latex IKEA Tistedal, cold foam IKEA Tuddal, cooling memory foam IKEA Knapstad, and the IKEA Tananger mattress topper.
Do you need a mattress topper?
Mattress toppers serve multiple purposes:
- They protect your actual mattress from dirt and bacteria.
- They increase your sleeping comfort.
If you’re only looking to protect your mattress from stains, moisture, and bacteria, we’d recommend you purchase a mattress protector instead.
Mattress protectors are specifically designed to safeguard your mattress.
Most of them, like the Panda mattress protector, are waterproof.
They’re often also much cheaper than mattress toppers. 💦

But if you’re looking to enhance comfort, you’ll undoubtedly want a mattress topper.
A mattress topper is a 4 - 10 cm thick removable layer of extra padding that you place on top of your mattress to change its overall feel.
Mattress toppers are mostly used to increase comfort and add a soft layer of cushioning.
This suggests that their primary purpose is to make a too-firm mattress a little softer. 🧱
So if you’ve invested in a new mattress that’s just a tad too firm, then, yes, a mattress topper is a good idea.
Can mattress toppers be used with any mattress?
As a standard, yes, mattress toppers can be used on any mattress, regardless of whether it’s a memory foam mattress, pillow top mattress, or a pocket sprung mattress.
Remember, though, that mattress toppers give you a better night’s sleep by making your mattress softer. 😴
It’s a good idea to pair them with firmer mattresses, like spring mattresses or hybrid mattresses, for the best effect.
One of our favourite hybrid mattresses is the Simba Hybrid.

A mattress topper, unfortunately, cannot make a soft mattress firmer.
If your old mattress is worn or sagging - or if you’ve purchased one that’s just not right for you - then you’ll have to look for a new mattress.
How do you attach an IKEA mattress topper?
Many mattress toppers come with straps or elasticated bands that make them fit like a sheet.
IKEA mattress toppers do not have straps.
You can simply place the pad on top of your mattress - but, this is super inconvenient.
We've found mattress toppers without straps to be very uncomfortable as they simply don't stay put on the mattress.
This is even worse if you're a restless sleeper. 😩
If you already have a strapless topper and don't want to buy a new one, we'd suggest using a fitted sheet or mattress protector over it to keep it in place as best as possible.

How good are IKEA mattress toppers?
All IKEA mattress toppers serve the purpose of making a firm mattress more comfortable.
But, they are still made from discount materials and cannot compare to higher-quality mattress toppers.
Like IKEA mattresses, customers often lament the fact that IKEA mattress toppers are very firm, despite being available in a variety of firmness levels ranging from soft to medium-firm to firm.
This has a negative effect on comfort and back pain relief.
Some customers find that the IKEA mattress toppers alleviate minor back pains and discomforts.
But many others have complained that the IKEA mattress toppers don’t have any pressure-relieving properties and actually worsen back pain. 😩
This is primarily because of their firmness.
Higher quality toppers, like the Simba topper, aim to relieve back pain.
Buying an IKEA mattress topper could be a 50/50.
It may solve your problems, but it might not. 🤷♂️
Low-quality toppers may even make your back pain worse!
This is why we’d recommend opting for a higher-quality mattress topper instead.
We highlight a few of our favourite UK mattress topper alternatives below.

IKEA mattress topper prices
Of course, the one thing that IKEA has going for it is the prices. 😇
IKEA mattress toppers are notably cheaper than our other favourite mattress toppers.
They will set you back an average of £100 for a double size topper.
Other favourites, like the Simba mattress topper, will cost closer to £250 - £300 for a double size.
But, ultimately, you get what you pay for. 💷
IKEA mattress toppers simply cannot compare to the higher-quality options available in the UK.
Our favourite budget-friendly mattress topper is the Panda memory foam bamboo mattress topper. 🥳
The Panda mattress topper costs an average of £125 for a double size, much cheaper than some other brands.
But, it still promises superior quality and comfort.

IKEA mattress topper delivery
Most bed-in-a-box mattress brands offer free delivery. 🚛
IKEA does not.
You can also choose to pick up your IKEA mattress topper in-store.
All IKEA mattress toppers come rolled up, so transporting them around shouldn't be too challenging.
Of course, you can purchase the IKEA Tussöy mattress topper on Amazon with free delivery, but it’ll only be available in European sizes.
Delivery charges vary, but you’re looking at between £4 and £50 for at-home delivery, depending on the size of your package.
Delivery generally takes place within 30 days of purchase.
IKEA mattress toppers come rolled up in plastic wrapping, so they’re convenient to move and carry.
IKEA mattress topper return policy
All IKEA purchases come with a 365-day return policy.
But, you can only return products that are in new, unused, and re-saleable condition and with the packaging.
If you’ve already tried out your mattress topper, then you will not be able to return it.
In contrast, the affordable Panda mattress topper comes with a 30-day trial period. 🗓
This means you can try out these products for thirty days - and if you’re not happy, you can simply send them back for a full refund.
Should you buy an IKEA mattress topper?
IKEA mattress toppers can add some extra comfort to a too-firm mattress, but we don't think they’re a good buy.
We’d much rather recommend investing in a higher-quality mattress topper to guarantee you extra comfort.
The Panda bamboo memory foam topper is our favourite value-for-money choice.
